Carmello is an honorary "American Pit Bull Terrier" because someone decided to crop his ears. Poor little guy, we actually think he is mostly likely a Basenji mix.
Carmello was scheduled to be euthanized because he was said to look like a pit bull with the cropped ears. He actually doesn't look anything like a pit bull.
The silly looking cropped ears actually just make him that much cuter!
Carmello is a tiny little guy. He is only 28 pounds at 7-9 months of age. He's a little under weight right now, but still will most likely not get bigger then 35-40 pounds tops.
Carmello is the biggest lap dog ever, which works out perfectly considering his small size. This little guy really can fit right in your lap. And will stay there happily for as long as you let him. And he loves to cuddle up at night, but is not a bed hog. He would love to rest his head on your shoulder or share a pillow, but won't get pushy :)
Carmello already knows some basic commands and believe it or not actually listens to them. He is a very quick learner and extremely eager to please. You will only have to tell him once not to do something and he's got it. And you almost wouldn't believe he's a puppy with how well behaved and mellow he his. He loves to play and go for walks, but is just as happy napping on the couch all day as long as he's with you. He is still working on housetraining, but is crate trained so he's getting there quickly.
Carmello also loves to go for long car rides. He watches everything around him with complete curiosity and awe. He must think the world is so big and exciting, he looks like it anyway.
Carmello also walks amazingly well on leash, of course he's really to small to pull much anyway, but he stays right by your side and checks in regularly to see if he's doing the right thing.
Sweet little Carmello is soaking up the love right now in his foster home, you can tell he didn't get much before. He seems so grateful for any amount of attention and food, and cookies, and water, oh boy. You can tell he was neglected before and maybe not treated very well. He can be a little shaky around new things and jumps easy at loud noises.
He's coming along so well though. He's learning now that not everyone will be cruel to him and that he can really eat and get some cuddles every day and he's never been so happy.
Carmello plays very well with all of his foster sisters and brother. He does great with all sizes of dogs. He's still getting the hang of the whole fetch thing. He chases the other dogs, not the ball. He should go to a home as either an only pet or with a friendly female to ensure a lifelong bond. He has met the family cat as well and was friendly, but super curious. He could go to a home with cats with supervision.
Carmello can't wait to get his own real forever home so he can start doting on his new mom/dad. He's never met a stranger and he bonds very quickly. He will be loyal and true to his lucky new family. Won't you please give Carmello a chance to win your heart!
