Here's what the humans have to say about me:
WE ARE SORRY BUT WE ONLY ADOPT WITHIN THE STATE OF FLORIDA
Meet Millie, a blind 18-month-old female with a Black and White coat.
When SHRF found out about Millie, she had been surrendered to a shelter through no fault of her own. She was bumping into everything and upon further examination the Vet determined that she was blind. In addition, her eyes were buphthalmic and she had some severe uveitis secondary to severe glaucoma. Her eyes were causing her pain resembling a migraine in humans. Therefore, the Vets felt it was in her best interest to have her eyes removed. As a result, her initial pictures are not the prettiest but once she heals everyone will be able to appreciate her beauty.
Her story is unfortunate, but she has an opportunity to live a happy and healthy life in a home where her humans will love her the way she deserves. Even with her rough start, Millie is a happy and sweet young Husky.
Given her blindness it is best for Millie's own safety to be crated when left alone, at least until she is in her forever home for a period time where she learns the surroundings of her environment.
Even though Millie is blind, her senses of smell and hearing are so sharp that they make up, to a large degree, her loss of sight. Smell is very often a dog’s most prominent sense and the one that is the most different from humans. It has been estimated that a dog’s sense of smell is 100,000 times more powerful than a human’s. Scientists think that dogs have about 2 billion olfactory receptors, many, many more than our 40 million.
Dogs also have a keen sense of hearing. In fact, they are capable of hearing sounds four times further away than the human ear can discern. Their ears are also better designed to gather more available sound waves. They have 15 different muscles that move their ears in all directions. Plus they can move one ear at a time, independently of the other, to absorb even more information.
Being young she is still very inquisitive and will chew on things she thinks are her toys. Millie does still require some work on being housebroken, another reason to crate her until she is fully trained.
She responds well to a clicker to get her attention. This is especially useful since we were not provided a name for her so she does not recognize when you are speaking to her. She is very playful and gets along well with other dogs which can be seen in the short video, here: https://youtu.be/ByIj2S1wBhc
.
Millie is healthy, heartworm negative, spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. Even with her handicap, she will quickly adapt to a loving, forever home and surprise you as to how well she will get around and enjoy life. Give her this second chance at life and fill out an adoption application on our website, www.siberrescue.com, today.
