Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This GORGEOUS gal is Maddie. She is a 4 year old Anatolian Shepherd who weighs around 90 pounds. She’s a BIG girl with a wonderful disposition and happy personality. Trust me when I say the pictures do not do her justice!
From her current foster we have learned that Maddie is a bit headstrong and stubborn, but that is a breed trait. She was not brought up with manners, or attention for that matter, so she’s been slow to respond to training. It’s not her fault and she is not broken! She was not given proper guidance as an adolescent so as a young adult, her defiance can easily be misunderstood. For that reason, we are looking for an experienced foster/adopter familiar with the breed and knowledgable on handling a stubborn dog.
We have also learned that Maddie has some separation anxiety so her ideal forever home would also include someone who is home a lot, and/or another dog in the family to keep her company. She has made great improvement with behavior and is much better in public, so we are confident she will continue to learn and love doing it. She is not good on leash though (again due to lack of training during the formative years) so a person with good, positive skills for leash training is ideal. She’s strong and powerful so a LARGE lot or even some property is best for her to achieve physical activity.
Maddie is spayed, current on all vaccines and flea prevention and otherwise very healthy. Anatolian Shepherd tends to be a very robust, hardy breed so we are certain she has a lot of good years ahead of her. She appears to be good with other dogs and in general very happy go lucky! She’s not been observed around cats though and bigger kids would be better suited only due to her size; she is super friendly to kids!
Maddie is currently with a wonderful foster. However, her stint with them will end mid-December so she will need another foster, a foster-to-adopt, or forever adoption.
