Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Meet Owen! This sweet boy is looking for a special home. He loves to play in the backyard, play with his purple ball and kiss his humans. He also loves Kongs stuffed with kibble and peanut butter, Nylabones, his stuffy Taco toy and napping on soft dog beds. Owen is a good snuggle buddy, but is still a young dog therefore is pretty busy and has lots of things to do. Owen likes to help with the laundry by dragging items out of the basket to play “keep away” with. Owen likes to meet friendly strangers and new people. Sometimes he is a little coy or shy at first, but once he knows you want to pet him and snuggle him, he warms up pretty quickly. He loves to explore new parks with foster mom. We are also working on sitting still for brushing and nail trims, but he is a young guy and intelligent. He learns quickly. He is good with other dogs and kids. And he is respectfully curious of the cat in his foster home.
When we rescued Owen he had limited mobility in his back legs and was incontinent. He has been going to physical therapy and has made great strides and while he can use his back legs and can zoom around quite fast, even if it's not quite "normal"! Owen is still incontinent. We do not know how much more he will improve but Owen is a very silly and intelligent boy who has SO MUCH love and so many laughs to create with you. He's our special needs boy that is looking for a special adopter to love and provide him with whatever he may need.
Owen is estimated to be three years old and weighs 20 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at https://safehandsrescue.org/adoption-process/ and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting.
We are also holding the following upcoming adoption events!
Animal attendance is subject to change based on their availability. Please check our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/safehandsrescue/ for confirmed attendance the morning of the event.

We only adopt out animals to homes within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. Our adoption process begins with the return of our pre-adoption form, available on our website. After reviewing your application a meeting is scheduled between you and the pup, sometimes in the fosters home or at a neutral dog friendly place. If any resident dogs are in your home, it is recommended that the pups meet at this time. After the meeting a home visit is scheduled and if everything goes well with the visit the adoption is finalized at that time. A home visit by one of Safe Hands representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pup will be living sometime during the adoption process.

More about this rescue
Safe Hands is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. Of great importance to us is to reduce the stray population and need for healthy animal euthanasia through spay/neuter programs, education, and promotion of respect for the furry creatures that share our lives.
We are a small, no-kill, volunteer run organization. All of our dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter.
This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes. If you are interested in providing foster care, and live within an hour of the Twin Cities, please e-mail us
Donations ALWAYS needed are: dog crates, puppy pee pads, natures miracle (for pet stain removal), Nutrisource brand puppy and dog food, Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, large clean towels, dog toys, leashes, collars and gas cards to help with our transports.
