My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sven is a year old male Dogo who is currently located in the Williamsburg, VA area. He is looking for his forever home!

Sven is sweet, loving, playful and very friendly with every human he meets! Great with both male AND female dogs, he loves to play and enjoys running around the yard. Sven needs a very confident owner, as he has been known to resource guard - something that his current foster has worked hard on with Sven, and he s doing much better.

***please note, Sven will NOT be placed in a home with another male dog if the owners do not have adequate breed experience***

Sven is an incredible Dogo who has a lot of potential. His future home needs to set boundaries right away and continue to be assertive and not let Sven think he runs the show! Sven loves to be loved on by his humans, and will smile to let you know how happy he is. Sven is an amazing boy, he isn't quite aware of his size so no small children in the home would be best.

Dogos are a wonderful breed but we urge anyone interested to dig in and do a lot of research before deciding if they are a good fit for your home. They require a lot of attention and training with them never ends! Boundaries must be enforced and they often need reminders as they push past boundaires you set! Dogos are loving, kind and gentle but don't mistake that for weakness because they are equally powerful and intense as well! Everyone in the home must be on board with having a dogo and play a major role in their daily routines and training. Yes it is work, but the rewards are ten-fold! Lazy homes don't work for dogos as they need stimulation, exercise, and lots of attention too during their younger years. Our goal in rescue is to be as transparent as we can about each and every dog plus make sure new families really understand the needs of a dogo!
