Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Three words to describe JAG: Playful, Gentle, and Spirited. Although he just turned two, Jag is always looking for a game to play. Whether it is tossing his favorite toy in the air, chasing bees, or taking the lid off his puppy obedience teacher’s cheese puffs during class. He is light-hearted and extremely people friendly. He has grown up with a family who has two children, the youngest being three when he was brought home. He is excellent with kids and inquisitive with other dogs. Typically, play bowing while on leash to entice a game of play. He is a dog that needs an active family - he often went hiking with his previous owner. Long walks around the neighborhood is another one of his favorite past-times. If JAG doesn’t get enough exercise he will bark, chew, and dig. He is social and won’t do well isolated from his favorite humans. He is also trained in basic obedience: sit, rest, ous, leave it, kennel, and to sit when he sees the leash. He also sits at the door to be released outside. And he is trained to sit and wait before being released to eat. His release word is “free”. The kennel where he was boarded over the summer said he was one of their most well-behaved dogs! Also, Jag does well with positive reinforcement training techniques. Heavy correction is not what this gentle giant needs. Rather, a firm, consistent, and kind leader. Jag’s pedigree is originated in Europe. He is from a working line of Grand Champions. He has a very strong hunt drive and can get carried away by his nose if he catches a scent trail.

Dogos are a wonderful breed but we urge anyone interested to dig in and do a lot of research before deciding if they are a good fit for your home. They require a lot of attention and training with them never ends! Boundaries must be enforced and they often need reminders as they push past boundaires you set! Dogos are loving, kind and gentle but don't mistake that for weakness because they are equally powerful and intense as well! Everyone in the home must be on board with having a dogo and play a major role in their daily routines and training. Yes it is work, but the rewards are ten-fold! Lazy homes don't work for dogos as they need stimulation, exercise, and lots of attention too during their younger years. Our goal in rescue is to be as transparent as we can about each and every dog plus make sure new families really understand the needs of a dogo!
