My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Roscoe has been here since he was 3 months old. A few months ago, he somehow ruptured his left eardrum, and, despite treatment, was left with a head tilt. At first this was hampering his mobility, but he seems to be adjusting well, can run and jump like a normal young cat. He is super affectionate, with me and with the other cats. One year old, neutered and fully vetted. 814 485 1579

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters physically meet the animal, and me. The person or couple is interviewed in person, a vet reference is checked (if possible), and I visit the home, tour inside and outside, ask any additional questions necessary, meet any live-in family members yet unmet, and sleep on my final decision. The next day I will call with a decision - either way. The adoption fee for a dog is $50, for a cat, $30. The adoption contract includes a takeback policy - in effect for the entire life of the animal- and the right to visit, with notice, and to raclaim the animal in the case of neglect or abuse.

Go meet their pets

We have just started occationally showing animals at Tractor Supply in Lavale MD. The big fundraiser each year is a yard sale in Flintstone and if I have enough volunteers I try to bring some of the shelter animals to show.

More about this shelter

Safe Shelter has been up and running for 16 years. I worked for a year at a large, long-running, widely respected no-kill shelter and this inspired me to try it myself. It is a small, low-budget operation that could really use some volunteer and foster help!
