My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Alexander. I used to live in a community cat colony in Los Angeles. Our caregiver noticed that I had a swollen cheek and a cloudy eye so she brought me to the shelter for help. Well it turned out that they thought I would do better in a home with a family! Surfcat came to the rescue and took me to their vet.

They helped me with my cheek and eye and I feel so much better. I do have some kidney issues, but I'm only 5 and my foster mom says I can beat this!

I love people and friendly cats. I love to play with toys and take care of my kitten roommates. Thanks for reading my story...

Update: Xander has lost most of his vision but gets along fine. He is still very persnickety about his beautiful long coat and grooms himself on a regular basis. Since his vision has been declining, he’s a little sensitive to loud noises. He’s a little shy at first because he can’t really see. A quiet home is best for him. He’s OK with other cats as long as he has a place to go and be alone. He likes his Catio time (secured and outdoors) so that he could have his fresh growing cat grass and get some sun and fresh air. Experienced cat people only. 2/15/2024

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters will fill out an adoption application through our website and agree to a home check before they are considered as an adopter.
We ask for a donation fee of $125.00 per cat. All cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated (age appropriate) dewormed and behavior screened. We make the best human/cat match possible. We ask that Surfcats be kept indoors only as they are not suited for unsupervised outdoor living.

More about this rescue

Surfcat Café & Adoptions in Ventura, California, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit special needs cat rescue that will provide sanctuary for and connect adoptable shelter cats with people and potential new homes. Currently Surfcat is a foster based cat rescue dedicated to educating the community about cat care, and responsible animal stewardship. Our next step will be to open our Cat Zone along with our surf themed thrift store DaKine Finds. In the future there will be story hours for children, facilities for hosting small gatherings, and our vision even includes Cat Mat Yoga, Movie Night, and an Open Mic Night for singers, songwriters, and poets!
