My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rio (formerly Abe) is a sweet boy who came to FurEver Fosters all the way from the streets of Louisiana (before the hurricane hit.). He and his sister Roxy were wandering the streets, scrounging for food wherever they could find it. Then, they were captured by animal control and waited until a rescue could save their lives. Because they have had very little human contact their whole life he is very scared and skittish and because of having to scrounge for food they were both very emaciated. But Rio never attempts to bite, even when backed into a corner. He is very gentle when he takes treats (if you look away) and if you give him enough time, when sitting in a room with him he will eventually come up to you to sniff you.

Rio needs a home where there is a fenced in yard and someone who will give him the time, space and love he needs to become the perfect companion. That may not happen overnight, it may take 6 months, maybe even a year…but it will happen with enough patience.

After getting used to you he allows you to pet him and give him some affection which he absolutely loves to get, but only when I have him leashed. He is slowly coming out of his shell and burgers really help!

Rio is a good dog that was dealt a crappy life to start, now he needs someone to be his saving grace!

Adoption donation fee is $150

Rio is not yet neutered because he just had his heartworm treatment on 8/23/21 and soon after became so ill he almost lost his life. He is scheduled to be neutered at the end of October. If adopted before then, we will require a neuter contract and $100 of his adoption fee will go towards his vet bill to be neutered.
