My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Spider
Nickname: Spidey. I-Spy.
Breed: Chihuahua/Rat Terrier/Super Hero
Age: ~9 Months
Weight: ~ 14 lbs.
Before OMD: Found wandering the streets, hairless, and scabby. Brought into the shelter by a good samaritan and we immediately snagged him on early medical release. We can’t ever resist a mange pup.
Initial Medical: Had a severe case of Demodex Mange (non-contagious) which required multiple medicated baths each week, antibiotics, a lot of TLC, and patience.
Current Medical: Clean bill of health!
Descriptors: Sweet. Snuggly. Agile. Affectionate. Playful. Independent. Adventurous. Curious. Fearless. Bossy.
Super Power: His sixth sense. He knew there was a fire across the street before anyone else and woke his mom up to make sure everyone was safe. He knows when anyone approaches the house, even if he’s nowhere near a window.
Introvert or Extrovert: All extrovert, all the time.
Energy Level: Balanced high. He plays hard but is happy to snuggle at bedtime, during movie time, or even during a midday nap.
What he loves: Spooning. Neck nuzzles. Cookies. The backyard. Chew toys. Sticks. Wrestling sessions with his fursibs. Eating. Squirrel chasing. Under-blanket naps.
What we love: He stops anything and everything for a cookie. He gives hugs. He has the best circle-twirl-spin-run dance combo when it’s time to eat. He absolutely loves kiddos and lights up whenever he sees them.
What he’s working on: Sharing toys with his fursibs. Eating slowly - a slow feeder bowl is a must for the foreseeable future. Taking treats gently. Learning commands. Less puppy chewing.
Apartment life: Not for this guy. His bark has been likened to a fire alarm. The whole building will evacuate, people will be disgruntled, overall not a good time. It's in everyone's best interest this fella doesn't live somewhere with shared walls.
Dogs: Yes. Raised in foster with dogs of all sizes but potential canine sibs should be patient or equally playful since he can be bossy and his non-stop energy and play nipping could aggravate some pups.
Cats: Eh…jury’s still out.
Kids: Absolutely. His favorite human is 2.5 years old. They have long talks about life under the table on the deck.
Housebroken: Working on it. Does well most of the time with a consistent routine.
Crate trained: Yep!
Ideal Forever: A patient family who is dedicated to fine tuning his manners and keeping up with all his social engagements so he continues to be his best Chihuahua self. Humans who are always happy to be the big spoon during a cuddle session. A nice backyard for romping and zooming would be a big plus in Spider’s book.

Spider is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped. He’s available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from Omdrescue.org.
