Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hunter is a sweet little guy who was found as a stray in Madera, CA. He was taken in at the shelter there, but was pretty shutdown in the shelter environment. We took him in for foster in our rescue so we could work with him to help him be a healthy happy pup ready for you to adopt him. He is UTD on vax, has been given flea/tick and heartworm treatment, microchipped, and was neutered on Oct 27. He is ready for his forever home!
Hunter is naturally a bit wary of people because of the months he was a stray, but when he warms up he is remarkably loyal and smart! He will need an experienced handler who understands that not all dogs are immediately comfortable and gregarious, and can take the time to show Hunter he's home and loved.
Hunter has learned an incredible number of commands in the short time he has been in foster and he is eager to please. He is a total cuddler and wants to be near his favorite person. He LOVES playing with other dogs and would do best in a home with other dogs (they help him feel comfortable faster). He has been fostered in a multi-dog and multi-cat home, and he's doing great with the cats also. He is curious about them but not aggressive. Hunter is housebroken and does well in a crate. He was a bit destructive at first, but we think this was his initial anxiety. He's now learned what he can and can't chew on and he responds instantly to being told NO or LEAVE IT. His recall is doing great and getting better, if you have another dog with great recall, Hunter will follow its lead!
He doesn't show excessive food aggression or resource guarding. He has learned to share food bowls and water bowls with the other dogs in the house and seems to always let the female take his bones without a fuss. He's only been around bigger kids so far and is fine with them so long as he knows them. He will bark at new people, and he's slowly learning his manners.
He was DNA tested by a potential adopter who was looking for a kelpie and we found out he's really just a BIG chihuahua! He's 40% chiuhaha and the rest is a mix of poodle, spaniel, german shepherd and pit bull. He's a great mix of love and cuteness, and will likely never get over 30 lbs. We think he's about 8 months old. Are you ready for this bundle of love!?!
