My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rufus is a happy boy who has been in and out of the shelter system since late 2023. Time for him to find a permanent landing place!! Rufus lived in one home for about two years and was reportedly housebroken, crate trained, and did well with both large and small dogs. His former person said that Rufus is affectionate, playful, loves toys, likes car rides, and is always by your side. He loves being outdoors and is looking to be someone’s sidekick!

Here`s what some of Rufus’s friends have said:

“After walking him 2-3 times, Rufus now sits nicely and waits for me to leash him. He is very excited and wiggly but works hard to be polite! He settles quickly and has a loose leash walk. He is attentive throughout his walks- a smart, fun dog who is always eager for affection, and one of my favorites to spend time with!”

“I really enjoyed meeting Rufus today! He was so polite when I entered his kennel. He sat nicely on command and remained seated while I leashed him. He is a really lively and fun dog and a nice walker. I sat down to take a small break in the shade and he waited nicely by my side. He’s treat- motivated and seems very trainable. Rufus knows the cues ‘sit’ and ‘down’, and also jumps on bench and picnic table on command. He seems like he`d be a really great dog to take out for a hike, with his nice leash manners, sociable behavior, and athleticism. A lovable little partner!”

“Rufus is such a sweet, good boy! He was easy to leash and we went into a play yard where he enjoyed exploring. He is a really playful, happy, and lovable guy. It was easy to get his attention and he is eager to please. He looks up attentively for praise and affection, and he promptly came to my side in the yard whenever I called him. This playful guy has TONS of potential. I feel like he would shine even more with some consistent structure. He is people-oriented and friendly. His wagging tail and joyful smile are so endearing, and I highly recommend meeting him!”

Rufus loves dipping his toes in the doggy pool and splashing around and is a loving and sweet boy who has tons of fans at the shelter. He’s smart, fun, affectionate and athletic- a perfect adventure buddy!

Rufus has been social and tolerant when meeting other dogs in playgroup. He’d like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to make sure it’s a good fit and may do best in a home without cats. Rufus is available for PACC`s two-week Trial Adoption program and is also av
