Blair came to our rescue, from Chicago Animal Care and Control, where she unfortunately sat for months. No one could quite figure out why. She had been surrendered by her owner in May, and was found to have had a CCL tear, which would require surgical repair. Despite the pain and discomfort she felt, she was always a doll. We can only assume the medical may have hindered her leaving the shelter earlier.
During her stay at CACC, Blair became a Safe Humane Chicago program dog, and they loved her so much, they offered to sponsor her surgery. Now, she just needed a rescue. We were thrilled to have been that rescue.
Blair had her surgery 4 weeks ago and she’s doing great! She’s using her leg a bit more each day and will continue progressing. Until she’s comfortable using it full time again, girl has got some moves on 3 legs! Quick and nimble. Like a cat. But not like a cat. Because Blair would hate that reference. Cats are the worst! Using four legs or three, she does not care, nothing is going to slow her down. She’s quick and nimble, like a non-cat, kind of cat. Got that?
This girl is fantastic, she loves dogs, big and small, and all humans. But she’s also got a little mischievous side. Blair, is a shoe thief extraordinaire. This sweet as pie girl, gets you with her innocent eyes and calm demeanor, and when you’re not looking, her puppy side comes out. She may or may not, steal something she’s not supposed to. It’s hard not to smile seeing her be a normal, goofy dog though. She’s such a good girl, she drops whatever she has, the minute you look at her or tell her to “drop it”. That’s about the extent of her “wild child” side.
Blair knows basic commands like sit, down, and paw, and she loves affection. She will let you know you’re not paying enough attention to her, by pawing at you. The 7 year old boy she lives with, says she’s giving “high fives”. When the family was discussing a potential new name for her, his suggestion was “High Five, Girl”. Solid name choice. Blair seems easier to remember though.
