My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Meet Zoey!   Born around March 2019, and she is at her ideal weight - a petite 60 pounds.  This sweetheart is a “project dog.”  She is very wary of people and needs someone especially patient and kind to help her regain trust in people.  She is a work-in-progress and is slowly getting more confident in foster care.

Zoey was under-weight at 43 pounds when she was surrendered to a local animal shelter.  She was very uneasy in that setting, so SPIN got her into a calm foster home as soon as possible.  There she began to relax and transform into her healthy, gorgeous self.  We love her bright white coat with its unique grey and tan badger patterning.

Zoey is not aggressive in the least, she just avoids any kind of human contact.  For example, when being let in the house from the back yard, we need to step back several feet from the door so she feels comfortable walking back in.  She does not take any treats from her foster mom’s hand besides very high-value treats such as cooked meat.  She does not ever come to people for pets or attention, but seems to enjoy pets once she’s able to relax.

She just needs more time in the tender loving care of humans before she can enjoy her new pampered life.

Zoey’s happy place is with other dogs!  She loves them and is very friendly and playful with them.  Her favorite time of day is being around her canine foster siblings, running around and playing outside.  Like most Pyrs, she’ll get the zoomies for a few minutes, then she’s ready for a nice long rest.

She absolutely needs another playful dog in her forever home.  If you don’t already have a play buddy for her, adopt one from us!

She is great with cats!  She sweetly whines and tries to play with them.  She has shown no aggression towards them.

Zoey loves her toys!  Her favorites are large chew bones and crinkle toys. She’ll seek them out and take them back to her crate for “safe keeping.”

We haven’t seen her with children, but based on her current anxiety, it’s probably best if children in the home are old enough to understand how to be kind and gentle with her.

She is mostly potty trained. She does go to the bathroom outside when let out or on a walk, but has had a few accidents inside the home.  She just needs more time to teach her humans how to read the signs that she needs to go.

She barks a little.  She likes to bark when she sees or hears someone outside, or if the other dogs are barking.

She leash trained and loves going on walks.  She sometimes pulls for the first bit until she gets some energy out.  She walks best in a pack with other dogs.

Zoey absolutely loves her crate!  She has no issues staying in a crate at night. She shows no separation anxiety being left alone either.

She doesn’t love to be in the car, but tolerates it.

Zoey needs a family with abundant love and patience.  She would do best in a calm home where her adoring family can continue to nurture her, so she can continue to gain confidence, be more trustful of people, and live her best tranquil, happy life.

SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
