My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cheyenne came to Dayton from Atlanta on November 20, 2020, and promptly escaped her foster, leading us on a 5 week search for her around the Dayton area, finally ending on Dec 24 when she was trapped by a local resident.

It took Cheyenne about 4 months to learn how to be a civilized dog, and another few months to realize that her people are ok. She is a work in progress, but is making daily strides at being as “normal” as SHE can be. Cheyenne will always be skittish and nervous outside the home, and will probably never be an outgoing dog with other people. She is able to bond with people inside the home given time.

She is a 40lb scruffy terrier mix who gets her confidence from other dogs inside the home and will require at least 1 other dog who is outgoing and confident, but really, the more the merrier. She is fine with cats.

Because of her feral behavior and nervous temperament, a home without kids is preferred, as is someone who is familiar with, and has experience with either feral or puppymill dogs.

Cheyenne does enjoy a quiet walk around the block and does great on leash. She does have a tendency to spook at times, but we’re confident this will resolve as trust is built.

She is crate trained, and has had no recent accidents inside the home.

She has done well at vet visits, and car rides.

We will require the potential adopter to live locally to the Dayton area and agree to a slow adoption process involving multiple meet and greets until a time we feel confident that she won’t panic when left.

With time and patience we are confident in saying she will eventually settle in and find her groove in the right home. She is adorable on the outside, and even more so on the inside when she lets her guard down. She loves to run and play with her doggy friends, and tearing up toys is her favorite pastime.

ADOPTION FEE: $200 (All MVPC dogs are heartworm-tested, completely vetted, spayed/neutered, microchipped, crate-trained and house-trained).

A $100 hold fee is required for approved applications and will be applied to the full adoption fee at the time of the home visit.
