Hi, my name is Mike and I have a very sad story. I was adopted from a shelter as a small kitten and went into a home where I was horribly abused by a member of the family. Instead of learning how to be a happy, loving, and playful kitten, I learned that people were something I needed to defend myself against at all costs. I learned to bite and scratch and hiss and I hated everyone I met. I was very angry and extremely depressed and I had a huge chip on my shoulder. At the age of nine months my “family” gave me up because they did not want to deal with the behavior they created. I then went to 3 different foster homes until I finally ended up with my current foster mom who felt she might be able to help me. Over several months’ time, with lots of love and understanding, I slowly began to realize that not everyone was out to hurt me. I learned how to give and receive love, I learned how to play, and I came to realize that I would never have to endure abuse again.
I am now a very friendly and happy guy and I love everyone I meet. I’m very out-going and I love attention from absolutely everyone. I get along ok with other cats, but not great, so I would do best as an only cat in a new home. I am considered a special needs cat because I may have some moments when I feel frightened or threatened by unfamiliar circumstances in a new home, and I may momentarily regress into a defensive posture. I need to have a new mom or dad that will be understanding and able to calm and soothe me if that happens. More than anything I really just need someone who will love and accept me for who I am, and who will be willing to give me plenty of time to adjust to new surroundings.
