Here's what the humans have to say about me:
PENNY is a unique dog...smart, affectionate, independent. She is 1 1/2 yrs old, and a Rat Terrier type
She is 24# which is full grown. She came to me from a friend who works at a Vet Clinic of which Penny was brought in by their local ACS to be put down...because she was injured and they had no means to care for her. My friend instantly called me and asked if I would take her. The injury was like a road burn in an awkward place...right where the thigh joins the hip. It was like all of the skin had been peeled off. The vet/tech took x-rays (nothing broken), gave her a bath; shaved and cleaned the area; heart worm tested her (Negative); and gave her a Rabies vaccination. She also donated the 2 tubes of ointment for the injury. It took 3 weeks to heal. It will probably grown back most of the hair but there may be some pink skin left. With her very short hair, it probably won't be noticeable at all. We then had her spayed; 2 dog vaccinations and Bordetella. SHE'S READY TO GO!!
I have since turned her loose in my house with 5 cats and many dogs. She's such a happy camper. She loves to play with the puppies. She pesters my cats but she basically leaves them alone. She is leary of strangers but warms up to them quickly. I have not had her around young children. She basically has a mature personality, so I wouldn't say she would tolerate the behavior of young children. She would be good with kids from 8+...if they know how to be loving and play gently. Playing may increase as she gets to know them.
She can be a barker for strange people and strange noises but I wouldn't categorize her as a "yapper". You scold and tell her to quit and she does. We are working on the house training.
Check out our little video or her on my bed. She was feeling playful so she had a "jazzed" look on her face. I believe she will be a lap dog once she gets the TLC she deserves.

GET IN LINE FIRST: If you are interested in this dog, please fill out the application (link listed above). The rescue will contact you once the application is received. Although we strive to answer everyone, due to the high volume of inquiries we receive, we cannot guarantee a response to all emails. Filling out the application is the ONLY way to ensure a response from the rescue. In addition, while you are emailing us, if others apply, you lose out adopting the dog you chose. We have hundreds of puppies/dogs available so there really is no need to apply anywhere else. Also, one application is good even if you are interested in several different dogs...one application no matter which one you choose. We try to make it as easy as possible for you but if you are applying or have applied anywhere else, we do need to know that, too.
SHANYE'S FOSTERS is a group of foster parents in the Olympia/Tumwater area. We foster dogs for rescues and assist them in adopting/rehoming of their pups/dogs by listing on this site. Many dogs posted here are available to pre adopt NOW directly from the rescue. The only ones in foster in the NW specifically state that. We have very few fosters so most need to be pre adopted. All adoption fees go towards rescuing more dogs in need. No one receives a salary. Shayne's Fosters is not responsible for any experience you have with any dog you might see posted on this site. They are the property of the sponsoring rescue who will supply all medical supporting records which is given with each dog when adopted.
Our adoption fees cover all medical costs to make sure the pups are appropriately vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and spayed/ neutered. It also covers the cost of transport from Texas and the necessary health certificate documentation. The fees also include a negative heartworm test for any dogs over 6 months. Some dogs have additional medical, such as FHO, ACL, hernias, dental, and a myriad of other vetting. We do full disclosure of medical care/situations. If the adoption fees seem high (which never cover the true cost of rescue), we recommend fostering for a good rescue. Fostering ensures you incur no vet bills and no boarding fees. We are always in need of good fosters. We are all volunteers who donate our time and resources to help save as many dogs/pups lives as we possibly can.
Thank you for choosing to adopt a rescue pup/dog. Over 1 billion dogs worldwide are put to sleep (PTS) annually... thousands daily. The dog pounds PTS entire litters, pregnant/nursing moms and wonderful dogs that can make someone a great companion. We firmly believe there is NO breed other than "rescue" for all species. Thank you for being part of the village it takes to save these precious lives.
