Here's what the humans have to say about me:
*INQUIRIES SENT THROUGH PETFINDER WILL NOT BE ANSWERED AS WE DO NOT HAVE THE MANPOWER TO RESPOND TO THEM. PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION
APPLICATION INSTEAD*
Meet Marvelous Maverick-TX, a super sweet 1 year, 10 month old male Goldendoodle who is in an IDOG foster home near Galveston, TX.
*Please read ALL the information in his listing before applying for him to ensure you understand what he needs to be successful in his new home. If you would like to be considered as a potential adopter for Maverick, please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL in to your browser).
*We will review your application and let you know if you made our short list of applicants for him. We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety and welfare of our dogs - your understanding is appreciated.
*We are all volunteers and have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for - we do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog. Our adoption process may take 2-4 weeks.
*You must be approved to adopt Maverick before we will schedule a meet and greet with him. We do not transport our dogs. We expect approved adopters to visit him in his foster home within a short period of time of being approved to adopt him. Our adoption process involves vet and personal reference checks, phone interviews, a home visit, an adoption contract and an adoption fee.
*AGE: 1 year and 10 months old (born 10/2019)
*WEIGHT: 78 lbs., very tall and athletic
*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence is required and a medium to large size yard is required as Maverick loves to run and play. No electronic collars or invisible fences are allowed as we don’t think these would set him up for success.
*COAT TYPE: Wavy, low-shedding. Maverick’s new family should be prepared to brush his coat regularly and for the expense of having him groomed every 6-8 week. This is approximately $100 per groom. Additionally Maverick will need a fresh groom upon going to his new forever home.
*ENERGY LEVEL: Medium to high. Maverick enjoys running and playing as often and frequently as he can. He has enjoyed playing with his foster dog siblings.
*DOGS: Maverick lived with another dog for his entire life and will likely need another dog in his new home. He does well with dogs of different sizes.
*CATS: unknown; he has had no exposure to cats in his foster home.
*KIDS: 8+. He is a large dog and a little clumsy at times and does jump on people so we feel that kids 8+ who know how to be around a large dog would be best for him.
*CAR: He does great in the car and lays down. No crate was needed in the car. He enjoys going for rides and just being part of the activity.
*CRATE: Maverick does great being in the crate and getting in the crate when asked. Upon leaving the crate he is full of energy and is often taken right outside so he can stretch his legs and run. He sleeps in a crate in the evening and is currently in a crate for a few hours when the foster family is not at home. He would much rather not be in the crate and be with his family getting attention, love and exercise.
*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes, Maverick is almost house-trained fully. Maverick is a bit slow to warm up and gets nervous when new people come over. He may grumble and may submissively urinate. He is getting better with this as he becomes more socialized and accustomed to new people coming and going. He does go outside to potty frequently.
*LEASH: We think walking on a leash is new to Maverick. He pulls and can be a bit skittish at times with new things, noises and smells. He would do well with continued training and practice on leash.
Meet Marvelous Maverick! Maverick is a gorgeous male almost 2 year old F1B Goldendoodle in a foster home near Galveston, TX. He was surrendered to IDOG when his family wanted him to get more attention and exercise than they were able to provide.
Here is what his foster parents have to say about this amazing boy. Maverick is one of the sweetest dogs we have ever met. He is an amazing athlete who loves to run, play fetch and just be with his foster family. He’s a Velcro guy who loves to cuddle and be wherever his foster family or dog siblings are.
Maverick is sweet, cuddly, loving, calm, caring, well behaved, and smart! He will lean in to you like he can’t get close enough…a Velcro guy! He would do great in a single family home with a secure fenced yard but would be stressed in an apartment or condo as Maverick barks when he is nervous, upset or just unsure of his surroundings. Maverick will also bark at intruders or sometimes guests but just need a little time to warm up to his new environment and be with a family who is patient with him. Maverick does well with unknown loud noises such as thunderstorms or fireworks and will only ask for cuddles in return.
Maverick is full of energy and loves getting to run in the backyard multiple times of the day. He also loves to lean on you and be next to you whenever he can be. He is very sweet and gentle but can also be clumsy at times too.
He jumps some when excited/meeting people, but calms down quickly.
He really is such a sweet, sweet boy!! Hope that helped. Let us know any other questions,
Here are a few of Maverick’s traits:
Gentle with everyone he meets but can be nervous and shy at first
Playful with other dogs and toys
Slow to warm up when in a new situation
Snuggly - will be by your side both day and night as close as he can possibly be.
Submissive
Affectionate and loving
Some of Mavericks favorite things to do are:
Running
Playing
Jumping to try and catch balls or other toys
Walking
Cuddling
Playing with other dogs - has done very well with his foster dog siblings
The few things that Maverick needs work on:
Socialization (becoming more comfortable in new situations/meeting new people), barking at outside noises and strangers, jumping when excited, getting distracted when going potty – we feel all of these will be easily worked on as he gets more training and acclimated to his new home. His new owners should be willing to work with Maverick on his issues and have patience while he transitions to his forever home.
Maverick is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, crate and house trained. He is heartworm negative and on heartworm/flea and tick preventives.
ADOPTION FEE $400
OUR ADOPTION FEES RANGE FROM $100 - $750 depending on the dog. The following is a general guide, but each dog is assessed individually. It currently costs IDOG an average of over $400 for basic vet, grooming and foster care on each dog; that does not allow for the ones who get sick, need surgery, have special needs or are heartworm positive.
