My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

2009 16.1 HH Bay Thoroughbred Mare

“Emmy” is a stunning, athletic off-the-track Thoroughbred with a truly royal pedigree. As the granddaughter of the 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, she carries both beauty and legacy. Emmy is a sweet, sensitive mare who thrives on routine and becomes wonderfully “in-your-pocket” once trust is established.

Emmy has been ridden at the walk and trot and is currently building confidence in her trot work in the arena. She is intelligent, eager to learn, and responds best to calm, consistent handling. As she is still green, Emmy will need an experienced rider to continue developing her skills. She does especially well with a structured yet varied training schedule that blends riding with confidence-building activities—liberty work is a favorite.

At this stage of her career, Emmy is best suited for a low-impact flatwork home. She receives annual hock injections, benefits from regular chiropractic care, and currently wears front nail-on shoes. While she once had a reputation for being hard to catch, a consistent routine of bringing her up to her stall each day has completely resolved that behavior.

With time, trust, and a few well-placed snacks, Emmy’s loyalty and heart truly shine. If you’re looking for a talented, responsive partner to grow with, Emmy could be the perfect match.

Adoption Process

Once a complete application is received, KYEAC will begin the screening process. This usually takes about 5-7 days, depending upon how easy it is to make contact with your references.

KYEAC will notify you when your application has been approved, and you may then make an appointment with KYEAC to visit the equine(s) you are interested in adopting.

Adopters are responsible for transportation arrangements and costs at the time of the adoption and in the event of return.

Adoption fees are non-refundable.

Please also note that Adopter agrees that the adopted equine may not be raced, bred, sold, given away or assigned by the Adopter, except as otherwise provided in the adoption contract.

Further, we require adopters to complete an inspection on the adopted equine at 6 and 12 months after the date of the adoption. Provided the photos and veterinary report from these two inspections are satisfactory, KYEAC will then transfer full ownership of the equine to the Adopter at 12 months via a transfer letter.

More about this rescue

The Kentucky Equine Adoption Center (KyEAC) is the largest all-breed equine rescue in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Nestled on 72 acres in the rolling hills of Jessamine County, KyEAC is the home and training ground for approximately 50 equines at all stages of rehabilitation and retraining. We are not a sanctuary; part of our mission is to find the perfect home and purpose for all of our horses–from high level dressage to therapeutic equine companions, from trail horses to pasture ponies.
