Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**If you are interested in Barney, please fill out an adoption application at: www.roversretreat.org**
Hello! I came to Rovers Retreat named Barney, but everyone who met me said it didn’t fit me, so now my name is Whiskey! I came all the way from Turkey to the US and I am looking for my forever home. I am approximately 1 ½-2 years old and am a very tall, large boy. I think I am part Akbash and part English Setter which is why I have cute freckles on my nose!
As I lived on the streets in Turkey, I am still getting used to having a home. I love to sleep on the cool tile in the house, and also on a comfy doggie bed with my family. I am a good sleeper and overnight I am quiet until my foster family wakes up around 7am. I am potty trained and haven’t had any accidents in the house. My energy bursts come in the morning and evening, so that’s when I’ve been going on walks which I love. During the day I tend to rest near my people.
I LOVE toys! I am really goofy with my stuffed animal toys and love playing tug of war with them. I have never jumped on furniture or a bed. I like other dogs, but don’t necessarily need a dog buddy in my forever home.
I love having my head scratched and will walk up to you and nudge you to remind you to pet me. Otherwise I am content at your feet while you are at home. I love to run so would love a home with a large backyard. I get very excited when I smell or see critters. I still go back to my Turkey ways sometimes, and will sleep in planters or dirt when it’s hot out.
I have learned how to walk nicely on a leash with the assistance of a gentle leader. I need someone strong to work with me as I still like trying to chase rabbits and squirrels that I see and because I am so big, can pull very hard. I’m learning how to get in a car and making nice progress. I don’t know a lot of commands, but I learned to sit quickly as good things happen when I sit.
I definitely will need a family with patience and willingness to train me and love me. But I am smart, easy going, and surprisingly gentle most of the time.
Due to the high cost of international travel, the adoption fee is $800. Barney is being fostered in Newport Beach.
