My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Howdy, my name is Rocky and I am a spectacular pooch. I was adopted from WCHS as a small pup and lived with a nice and fun family my whole life; things were lovely. Unfortunately, with a growing family and many obligations they felt it was a bit costly to keep me and brought me back to the shelter to find a new home. Although I was certainly bummed, I understood the situation and am optimistic that I will find another loving family. I am rambunctious and active; when I first get outside for a walk, I get very excited and my exuberance comes bursting out so it appears that I am not well-mannered. But in a short time, I settle down, remember that I am a gentleman and walk very nicely. I enjoy soaking in all the fabulous smells and will take any opportunity to roll in the cool grass because that feels so good. Although I am comfortable in a crate, in my previous home I was respectful of my person's things and had the luxury of roaming freely about the house when I was alone. At bedtime I was allowed to crash on the couch when the house got quiet and everyone went to sleep. I know proper potty behavior and would go to the door to ask to go outside to use the facilities. When I get to my new home it would be wise to give me plenty of opportunities for potty breaks until I get the lay of the land and we learn each other's signals and routines. I have lived with children and do very well with older kids that I can play with. I should be supervised around small humans because I weigh about 60 pounds and sometimes, I forget how big I am; I might accidentally knock tiny tykes over. I am very affectionate and adore snuggles and cuddles; I think lots of people showering love upon me would be grand. In the past I have lived with another pooch and did great. I even lived with four felines and did very well although I do not like them sharing my food so I prefer to eat alone. I have no problem with people around at mealtime, just kitties. I have been described as friendly, playful and quiet; I am active (even hyper sometimes) and a wee bit subborn. My "likes" include car rides, playing fetch and getting hugs. I am not a fan of nail trims so I typically get those at the vet. I am a smart guy and know the cues for ‘sit', ‘down', ‘paw/shake' and ‘stay'. I like to keep my brain busy so it would be wonderful to take some classes with you so I learn new skills and more human words; perhaps we can get involved in canine sports, nose work, rally or dog parkour to help me burn some energy. I think we can have a phenomenal life together and I promise to be loyal and will work hard to make you proud; my goal is to please people. I hope you stop by so we can get acquainted, a pup can never have too many friends.
