Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATED BIO 02/10/2010: Suki is a 4 month old, 5 lb puppy that came from a high-kill shelter. She originally had ring worm when she got into her foster mothers home, but that has since cleared up with prescription shampoo and anti-fungal medication. Suki is not a pure-bred Yorkie (and we really do not know what kind of dog breed she is!). Our original guess was Chihuahua/Yorkie, but that is just a guess. However, the older she gets, the more we think she does have some kind of terrier in her as well - possibly Jack Russell Terrier.
Suki's coat is a short/medium coat that is slightly wiry and will not need a lot of grooming. She is a happy puppy that wants to play with her older foster brothers and just loves the kitties more than anything - even when they get their claws in her, she still wants to play with them. She is doing fairly well on house training and knows to do her business outside, but she can not hold things forever..... so, if her foster mom gets busy with other things, her foster mom has a little cleaning up to do!
Suki is showing her personality the older she gets. She is also extremely smart and learned to sit by watching the other dogs! She has very good manners, and while she does beg a bit for food, that begging consists of her sitting. She can now go down the stairs by herself, but she does that one at the time, she is still not completely comfortable with them. Suki is proving to be a dominant dog. While she does get along with other dogs, she wants to be number one so the best case scenario for her is if she is with another dog to be with one that is not dominant.
We are looking for someone that has dog experience or is definitely willing to go to a trainer with Suki. She goes to the dog park almost every afternoon, and has a great time playing with the little dogs there - her two best friends are Dachshunds that she chases around and jumps all over. She has always been a bit frightened of new things, and continues to be scared of things she is not familiar with - but her natural curiosity takes over, and she will start to cautiously investigate the new item and fairly quickly become used to it - this applies to things, people and other dogs. She will approach adults she is knows, but has shown she is scared of children when they are yelling and running around, so because of this, she would not be a good dog for a family with young children. She is also showing that she loves to dig a hole with her paws and her snout, and then roll around in the dirt - good thing she is a black dog! Suki recently ate through her beautiful pink harness she had, so she is currently sporting an old blue harness one of her foster brothers used to wear. On February 9th, Suki got spayed, (and had the shortest recovery time her foster mom ever saw!) and will be ready for her new home after February 23rd. Get your applications in soon for this young puppy before she has been permanently adopted!
UPDATED BIO 01/08/2010: Suki is an adorable 2.8 lb, 12 week old puppy
that was saved from a high-kill shelter. While we do not know her
background, we believe she is Chihuahua and Yorkie mix - a Chorkie!
It is confirmed she had ringworm when she came out of the shelter and
she has been treated for that. Most of her fur has grown back, but
she is going to continue her treatment for another week.
Suki is a happy, outgoing puppy that loves to play with the other dogs
in the house as well as the cats. Being a puppy, Suki loves to chew,
so we make sure she always has some kind of bone to chew on - whether
it's a nylabone, a bully stick, a squeaky toy, a ball or something
appropriate. She will pick up anything left on the floor and start
chewing on that so we have to be very careful to keep a clean floor.
While Suki gets along great with animals and people, she is already
showing signs of some possessive aggression with her bones, food and
toys when it comes to the other dogs - she does not want to share but
is willing to steal! We are being very careful to not spoil her too
much - which is hard! We try to leave her on the floor as much as
possible instead of putting her on the couch, and she also sleeps in a
crate at night. We feel it is important to crate train her for her
own safety as she is so small. She is also coming along great with
her house training, and will do her business every time she goes
outside - but she does get taken out every hour or two. She also
loves to eat, and is currently getting fed three times a day.
Since she just got her second set of puppy shots, she has not been
taken anywhere other than her foster home and she is still getting
used to new sounds. Suki is a confident dog, but she does get scared
at loud noises she is unfamiliar with and will run away, but we hope
with more exposure, she will overcome that. Suki will be available
for adoption in mid-February after she has been spayed. We do not
know how big Suki will get, but we do think she will remain small
around 6 lbs or so. Because of this, we are only adopting her into
households with no small children.
UPDATED BIO 12/11/09: Suki is an adorable 8 week old, 1.2 lb girlie puppy that was saved from a local high kill shelter. We really do not know what kind of mix she is, but we believe she is a Chihuahua/Yorkie mix - sometimes referred to as a "Chorkie". She has only been in her foster home for a short time, but so far, she has shown that she is very socialized for her age and also very curious, as most puppies her age are. Suki does not like to be alone or away from her 'people', and will jump up on her rear legs to be picked up. She runs after her foster mom & dad wherever they go. At such a young age, she is already a supreme lap dog. She is feeling fine, and ate a huge dinner when she got home from the shelter. Suki also loves the little squeaky toys in the foster home and is already playing tug of war and walking around with them in her mouth.
She does have a skin condition which may be ringworm; a culture has been taken and the results won't be in for a couple of weeks, although she is being treated for this condition with medicated shampoos. Suki also has a huge belly, which may be indicative of worms - this is very common in young puppies, so she is being treated for this as well. Suki will not be available for adoption until her skin condition is cleared up and she is spayed.
PLEASE NOTE: If the estimated age of 2 months is correct, that means that Suki is going to be a very small dog - 6 lbs at the most. Because of her small size, we will consider adult households only, sorry no small children.
INITIAL BIO 12/10/09: MEET SUKI! She is an adorable 2 month old 1.2# yorkie/chihuahua mix - a chorkie! Little Suki is too young to be away from her momma, but her owners brought her into the shelter, with no momma and no litter mates. She has some skin irritation on her tail where she may have been injured, but other than that, she is a very sweet little baby girl. Please keep posted to read more about little Suki.
