My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi. I’m Luke and I am approximately two years old. A few months back I was picked up by animal control, dragging a big, thick chain. Now, I know that we dogs are supposed to be afraid of these people, but the lady who ‘caught’ me fell in love with me and did her best to convince everybody around that I was a really good boy. Lots of people looked at me in the shelter, but I was skinny and had spots all over me. When they found out I was heartworm positive too, my days were numbered.

Well, there was this one lady who kept coming back to the shelter to visit me. Finally with a big sigh, she adopted me. I couldn’t understand everything she said - something about me being too good a boy to be put down. Now, every day she tells me I’m a wonderful guy and that she’s my foster Mom. She promises me that she’s going to find me the perfect ‘forever’ home, and I know she will.

She got me treated for heartworms and I’m also neutered now. I’ve gained 12 pounds and my sable coat is soft and shiny. I’m looking pretty darn good, if I may say so myself. My doctor says that I have mild hip displasia but you wouldn’t know it. My foster Mom loves my big shepherd trot, my head held high and ears forward.

I weigh about 80 lbs so I’m not huge as shepherds go. I get along fine with other dogs and love to tussle with them, but walk the other way if they get cranky. People are my favorite thing. Being with them is even more important than eating. I really want to please and take my behavior cues from my people. If they want to play, then I’ll play. If they want to sit, then I’ll lie at their feet. If they want to pet or groom me, I turn to jello and want more, more, more.

My foster Mom thinks it best if I don’t live with small children. I do like them, but I get so joyful I’m likely to knock them down. Little kids don’t like that. I do like older kids, though. I like my foster Mom’s cats too much and don’t realize that if I play with them I could hurt them, so ‘no cats’ is best.

So here I am folks, eager to meet you and ready to give you lots of love and loyalty if you think I’m the right boy for you.

Luke must go to an indoor home where he will be an important part of the family. We do not adopt to anyone under the age of 21. Our adoption fee is $250.

Note: We do not have a shelter location. Our dogs are kept in foster homes as part of a family, to help prepare them for transition into their forever homes. If you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, please contact us by clicking on the email address to your right. We will be glad to make arrangements for a meeting.
