Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Beautiful Bowie believes there is ONE special person!!
Our dear, darling Bowie has lived a life of heartbreak. He has experienced repeated trauma in his young life, which we suspect includes being bounced around, very rough handling, being yanked by his collar/leash and harshly punished. Despite it all, Bowie remains a lover, devoted companion and desperately wants to please and be accepted for who he is - not to be forced or expected to be someone different.
His two breeds (Dachshund & Corgi) are protective, stubborn, dedicated, loyal, intelligent and eager to please. Bowie, weighs approximately 23 lbs., is 4 years young, 100% potty and crate trained and healthy.
We are looking for a home with a big, adventurous yard to explore, roam and play; a retired or work-from-home female caregiver; experienced dog guardian; no other animals; someone who understands trauma and reactivity-based responses in dogs who have been abused.
Bowie deserves to live a life that makes him feel safe and secure, with someone who will respect his limitations and honor his comfort level. He does not trust multiple visitors; children; fast movements, being forced out of his comfort zone or other animals. He does not want to go for walks outside of his own safe environment. Bowie is most comfortable as a homebody, where he feels safe and free from harm. He is also very clear with his body language when he is feeling uncomfortable, stressed or unhappy which makes understanding Bowie very easily when respecting his boundaries. He is still young, eager to learn and be your faithful companion - ongoing training with a certified trainer is providing Bowie the experience of what force free training means: a method that reinforces positive behaviors that will build the bond between you and Bowie, and improve his quality of life.
Bowie loves treats, interactive toys, clicker-training and following foster Mom around the house and garden. He deserves to be happy and live his best life!! We know there is someone special for Bowie!!
