My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sadie is a 4 to 5 year old Longhair Doxie. She is considered to be a "tween": a mix between a miniature and a standard. She weighs about 16 pounds.

Sadie came to us from a breeder that had "adopted" her from a local dog shelter. She told me that she had 22 dogs with two litters of puppies and Sadie was too much as she was going back to work.

Sadie came to us very thin with a dull coat. She inhaled her food and was constantly looking for more which tells us that she's been hungry. She is now a proper weight, knows that she will be feed regularly and her coat shines! She is house trained and crate trained, walks on a leash, sleeps in bed (that's a must for Sadie), does fine in the car and follows her person EVERYWHERE. She gets along with other dogs but really enjoys dogs her same size. She is fine with cats. She is not a barker or a digger and has a constantly wagging tail.

We don't know Sadie's past but we do know that she has been bred at least several times. She was found as a stray and turned into the shelter. Sadie has had a normal life at some point. She is EXTREMELY affectionate, is used to sleeping in bed, getting on furniture, going for walks. With a little refreshing and being spayed, she is now completely house trained. She does use a doggie door in her foster home. These are all traits of a dog that has been someone's companion. She bonds very quickly. Sadie is a master at cuddling, sitting on your lap, being wherever you are. She is a very sweet, very quiet, very cute, VERY devoted little dog.

What Sadie is not comfortable with is children and at first, men. She would not adjust to a home with children but does adjust to a man in the house as long as they are gentle and take their time with her. For that reason Sadie's primary care taker must be a woman.

Sadie needs a home with a woman who enjoys constant companionship. We don't think that Sadie has ever been in a home as an only dog and very much takes her ques from the other dogs so the other dog her forever home needs to be about her same size or smaller. She is not at all interested in larger dogs.

Sadie's home will need someone who is not away from home a typical 8 hour work day; someone who works from home and can have their dog in their work space or someone who is retired or works very part time, another small dog, a female primary caretaker, a fenced yard and owners that practice natural care.

If you are not familiar with Natural Care please go to Star-Mar Rescue Natural Care Facebook page. In the column on the left click on "videos" and then on The Truth About Pet Cancer 7 part series. That will explain what we do and why we do it.
===================================
Star-Mar Rescue is a natural care provider and we place our dogs in homes that are already on a natural care program or are eager to learn. We use no chemicals on our dogs, no commercial flea, tick or heartworm products (oral or topical), do blood titer testing instead of randomly vaccinating. Our yards are without fertilizer and weed killer and our homes are toxin free. We feel that dogs can be protected without being harmed by harsh chemicals and unnecessary vaccinations and do best on a species appropriate, no grain, raw diet; frozen raw diets, freeze dried or dehydrated no grain. Raw, no grain foods are easily gotten at many pet stores and on line and are no more expensive than a high quality dry food. This simple step will provide your dog the nutrition needed to keep them healthy and happy for many years unlike feeding a lifetime of processed foods. Our Motto is to "Protect without Harm". We are happy to answer any questions and to help with this transition.

If you feel that your lifestyle and environment meet Sadie's needs, please directly contact Martha at learymjri@aol.com or call 330-466-3667 for an application or more information. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE LINK PROVIDED AS IT IS NOT ALWAYS RELIABLE.

Sadie's adoption will require an approved application a meet and greet at the foster home, a home visit, with the adoption completed at her foster home in Wooster, OH. Sadie's adoption fee is $300. We will work to place her within an hour and a half driving distance from her foster home in Wooster, OH. so that we can conduct a home visit bringing Sadie with us. This includes the Columbus and Cleveland areas of OH.
