My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Luke is around 5 years old. 55 pounds. 87% American Staffordshire Terrier, likely mixed with boxer. Luke has great recall, he is easy to train. He knows sit, paw, other paw, down, place, wait, crate, off, hug, kiss. He is very food motivated and not food aggressive at all. He happily goes into his crate for treats and stays in there while mom is at work. Luke warms up to women much more easily than men. Luke currently lives with a male who he finds threatening when the female is around, this seems to be a pattern for Luke as he had this same issue when he had a chance in another home. Given this information, Luke would likely do best in a female only home, with the possibility of a single male home. Luke is an anxious, nervous, boy and can be startled easily, he needs people with patience to ease him into new environments. He needs proper intros with dogs, he currently lives with 2 other pitbulls and a 13 pound chihuahua mix. He plays with all of them, wrestles, tugs, runs, you name it! Luke loves to run! He would greatly benefit from a fenced in yard as he has now. He loves walks. Luke will likely do best with another confident dog in the home as they can give him a sense of security, but it might not be necessary. Luke also currently lives with a 7 year old human and has lived with her since she was 5, he does excellent with her, loves to explore and is curious to see what she is doing. Luke has been a little uncomfortable about young, new, rambunctious boys, as they can be unpredictable, and given his history with men, it is likely best to stick with females only. When Luke gets over-stimulated he can be impulsive and needs a family that will set boundaries and work with him when needed. Luke is a HUGE cuddle bug, one of the best snugglers. He will nuzzle right up in some blankets, with his doggy siblings, or you. Someone did Luke wrong in his past, his ears show it, but he has come a long way, he is a sweetheart.

This dog is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. This dog has tested negative for heartworms.

Luke's adoption fee is $300.

Luke isn’t a fan of the comings and goings at events and would prefer to meet his potential people in a quieter place. If you’re interested in meeting Sam please let your adoption coordinator know and she will put you in contact with his foster mom to meet him!!

If you are a MA resident, your new family member is required to go through a mandatory 48 hour quarantine period at our Woburn MA isolation facility. Your new family member will be dropped off by our transport on Thursday and will be ready for you to pick him/her up on Saturday between 12pm-2pm. An additional $100 fee will be added for any dogs picked up from the Woburn MA quarantine facility. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with MA Order 405-CD-12 and Order 1-AHO-05.
