My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Considering adopting? The first step is to do the application at http://forgetmenotshelter.org/Application

Simmer and his brother Storm, born 2/24/21, are not your typical Anatolian/Husky pups. These boys had a fairly challenging beginning to their lives, and arrived at the shelter very shy and withdrawn, with some resource guarding issues. Since arriving at the shelter, the staff and volunteers have worked with them extensively and now they are able to patiently wait their turn for treats, have no longer been exhibiting resource guarding after realizing they get all the food they want whenever they want it, and they are beginning to blossom!

They are ALMOST potty trained - still having a little trouble with the long overnight period in their shelter kennels - and are beginning, slowly, to get used to a leash. Recommend a harness rather than a collar and slow leash training, as the collar/leash combo is very scary still for them.

The great news is, they have lovely, sweet personalities that are beginning to shine through! They are BIG puppies, weighing almost 50 pounds at just 5 months of age, so we expect them to be very large adults. Now is the time to continue working gently with them on manners, so they don't turn into 120 pound jump-up-on-you-and-break-your-hip guys. They are extremely treat motivated and with proper positive training methods, should be really fun to train. They are not super high energy dogs (common with these larger breeds), but will still need exercise and interactive play to keep them relaxed and happy.

Normally this sort of dog would be a good guardian dog or emotional support dog... but in this case, Simmer and Storm are far more suited to a pampered pet/companion existence and really need their own emotional support humans. Each would like a calm and gentle household, no small children (which would both frighten them and get knocked over by them). We want to place them in separate homes so they each have a chance to blossom on their own. If you have a cat, we will test to see how they do with cats (at this point, they are familiar with the cats on their screened porches and have sniffed through the screening, without showing any prey drive or aggression toward them). They should do fine with another large and mellow dog, or would do great as the only dog.

Puppies require a lot of human interaction, and all puppies will benefit from obedience training and full immersion in their human household. These pups' ideal homes will have someone who can exercise them with a couple of energetic walks each day, plus commitment to training them how to be the best dogs they can be. They hope to have very few hours per day when they will be without the companionship of a human or other pet, and will reward their forever people with boundless love and loyalty!

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee is a suggested minimum of $95 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our transport expenses, that would be great!
