Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Athena was an owner-surrender on July 4 who is now being fostered in Monterey, CA. She is a 3 year old red/white malamute (quite likely a purebred but no papers), currently about 85 lbs and dropping. She didn’t receive much care or exercise in her previous home, which she is now getting in spades and loving it. Athena is remarkably loving and affectionate. She loves to romp and is learning to play fetch, though she mostly just runs after the ball and then rolls around with it. Athena doesn’t need a whole lot of exercise like a husky, she would do wonderfully in a home with some room for her to romp and play, but a nice yard to sit and survey her world would be the greatest. She loves being outdoors but likes to come in to snuggle with her people. She spent most of her life in a small concrete backyard so she is thrilled to simply be out in the natural world. My guess is she will love snow! She loves being near her humans and is extraordinarily gentle with people and kids. She has some issues with the dog she was rescued with but is doing much better with the dogs who live in the home she is being fostered in, and definitely wants to play with them and be part of the pack. She seems eager to meet other dogs, but she might be better as an only dog as she has shown some reactivity to dogs (which we are actively working on). She is crate-trained, house-trained, walks well on a leash (so long as you’re going where she wants to go), loves to cuddle, and would probably love to live in a colder climate. She is good with cats. Athena knows a few basic commands but is learning fast with lots of love and positive reinforcement. She has bonded well with her fosters and is proving herself to be very trusting and loyal. She needs a forever family to love!
