Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Considering adopting? The first step is to do the application at http://forgetmenotshelter.org/Application
This handsome black and white fellow is Dayton; he is a 4 year old long-haired kitty who is growing out the "lion cut" he had to have after first arriving at the shelter as a stray, due to months (if not years) of neglect causing his beautiful coat to tangle and mat too badly to comb out.
Have you always wanted a cat with whom you could hold long, deep, meaningful conversations? Dayton is the boy for you. He is very chatty, and loves to share his opinion on just about everything. He enjoys attention, but is not excessively needy, and has an independent streak that means he'll be happy to stay home alone and peruse the Seattle Times while you go earn money for the finest cat food. He is quite the character, very charming and laid-back. He's probably going to want to sleep on your bed. Or not. Perhaps he will invite you to sleep on HIS bed. Or not. He's up for all your favorite winter sports watching, too - he can hardly wait to meow "GO KRACKEN!"
Dayton likes the indoor/outdoor lifestyle, and would likely be content with anything from a large catio to a safe backyard to explore. He may also be a great candidate for harness/leash training, so you could take him for walks! He spent a bit of time at the shelter in April, during which he showed us he was good with other cats and did not like dogs... so we sent him out for a trial adoption to a lovely family with another Forget Me Not kitty, to be that kitty's companion. Unfortunately, once home, Dayton decided THAT kitty was NOT a cat he wanted to tolerate, and he proceeded to harass his new frenemy enough that Dayton needed to return to the shelter to try again. Once again, now that he is back at the shelter, he is tolerant of his roommate Flynn (also in the video), and even acted tolerant to a dog that we were cat testing. Dayton, Dayton, Dayton, what are we gonna do with you?! I guess he is "friend selective" - so we KNOW he will do fine as an only pet, and can only say he MIGHT be OK with another cat (IF IT'S HIS KIND OF CAT) or with a dog (IF IT'S HIS KIND OF DOG).
We will give preference to an adopter who would like Dayton to be their only furry companion.
All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee is a suggested minimum of $40 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.
Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our transport expenses, that would be great!
