Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Currently available for adoption!!
Dallas is a lovable, happy, 2 year old neutered male Australian Shepherd mix who is ready for his furever home. He weighs 70lbs, has beautiful blue merle coloring, and has medium length fur. Dallas is extremely affectionate and cuddly, loves to snuggle with his foster on the couch, loves to ride in the car and travels well. He sits nicely for treats, and loves to play with balls, toys, and bones. Dallas prefers to be near his people and looks to them for direction. Dallas is very loyal and wants to be your best friend.
Dallas walks well on a leash most of the time, but sometimes pulls when over excited. He will need a strong handler since he is a big, strong, young male. His adopter will need to continue his leash training so he can continue to learn to ignore distractions. Dallas will be fine to roam inside house unattended and enjoys sleeping in his dog bed or on the bed with his humans. He does not like to be confined to small areas or locked into separate rooms. He has had some crate training, but is not happy being crated. If a crate is needed, he will need continued crate training. Dallas is housebroken and does best when keeping a consistent potty schedule.
Dallas is good with some dogs with slow and proper introductions, but he is dog selective. If other dogs are in the home, adoption applicants will need to bring them to meet Dallas to make sure the dogs are compatible. Dallas would not be a good candidate for a dog park or in a home where many different new dogs come to visit. We do not know how Dallas is around children and are unable to test him. He has been good with some cats but has growled at others. He is obviously cat selective as well.
The ideal adopter for Dallas is one that is fun, loving, patient and can spend time playing fetch and going for walks. He will need a secure fenced yard to run and play in. Dallas is not a good candidate to be your first dog or for apartment living. His adopters should have some experience with Australian Shepherds or other herding breeds and be willing to continue working with him while he continues to learn and mature. A basic obedience course and/or a training routine can be helpful as well. He is still young and will blossom with more training and a stable environment.
Dallas is being fostered in Charlotte, NC.
