My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi World! My name is Elvira and I am a dog for sure. What kind of dog is a mystery for now. I think, when I look in the mirror, that I am a very pretty Dalmatian. Right? But when I stand up…well, I may be somewhat vertically challenged. So I have Basset Hound in my genetic history to explain my short legs and long body. To summarize, I am short and mighty cute.
I am much smaller than a regular sized Dalmatian. I am a very svelte 35 pounds. Since regular size Dalmatians weigh 50 pounds, you can see I am a mini-Dal (must be because of my mini legs). Lots of love in a small package.

So let me tell you a bit about myself. Most important, I LOVE my people. Dalmatians are known Velcro doggies who like to make sure we are where you are. So if you aren’t into cuddling, pass me by. I spent my first three years with humans who paid no attention to me. I was all alone. I was so sad.
NOW I have a foster mom who tells me 50 times a day that I am the most beautiful, the smartest, the kindest girl who ever walked the earth-along with a pet or a smooch. I am happy now.

The boring stuff; I am spayed, up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and Heartworm negative. Snore. My humans say I am three. A lady never tells so we shall just say I am young .

I am well-mannered around other dogs but I don’t see the need to play with them or be best friends. My humans are my best friends. I sleep next to my foster mom at night but really don’t want to smush up close. I like my own pillow. She appreciates that I don’t shove her out of bed. I also don’t need to snuggle with my foster brothers and sisters, nice doggies, but I like to have my own space and my own bed. I will go to a crate but it sure isn’t my favorite place to be. There are so many interesting things for me to see and explore.

My foster mom says I have to tell you about my bad habit. What bad habit? All I do is jump up to say HI-HI- HI !!!!! She thinks I should be polite and just sit until you notice me and give me pets. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I’m short! You could miss me! Well, I am going to try to learn better manners and improve my non-jumping skills.

Here is my wish list:
• Involved parents who like to take daily walks and have a doggie on their laps. Walks are important to keeping me healthy and to keep my girlish figure. TIME FOR YOU and ME.
• Kids would be nice but they better be tall enough that, if I forget myself and DO jump, I wouldn’t knock them down. My FM’s friend who has lots of full size Dalmatians tells her Grandlittles to ‘grab a wall’ when the dogs are running around. I am smart enough to learn not to jump up or knock down kids.
• Human who isn't gone for long hours. I really LOVE having my humans close and after my lonely first three years as a backyard dirt dog, I want to spend the rest of my life looking at you.
• I would be fine as an only dog but can live with another dog. I haven’t been tested with kitties but many Dals and Bassets live happily with a kitty after a gentle but firm introduction to the rules of living with a cat.
• A yard to run in. It doesn’t have to be a huge yard. Look up Dalmatian and it ALWAYS says “place to play”. Exercise is important to me. I am stunning and want to maintain my looks. Grass would be lovely but optional.
• A firetruck. Oh, my FM says I can’t ask for that because I am too short to climb up to the top. She has so little faith in me.
• Someone who likes short people so Randy Newman need not apply.

As you can tell, I am the perfect package. If you fit this description as well, please drop my foster mom a line for more information. Love, Elvira

PS: my humans did a DNA test and that says I am a lot Basset and a little Dalmatian. Whoever painted me didn't know that!
