My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If interested in adopting from Lighthouse please fill out our adoption application. Instructions on how to fill out our online application are on our website here: https://www.lighthouseanimalshelter.org/application-instructions

Visitors are currently limited to approved applicants only. We will contact you when your application is fully processed to set up a time for you to meet our dogs.

Nemo is a lovebug. He is an affectionate boy whose favorite thing to do is hang out on the porch with our volunteers and sit in their lap for attention. Nemo has a lot of love to give. He is a relatively laid-back guy but will occasionally chase a tennis ball or play with a rope toy.

Nemo enjoys playing with other dogs. Sometimes he likes a good game of chase and tumbling with another dog, while other times he is feeling more laid-back and focuses more on receiving attention from volunteers and giving kisses. He is an awesome combination of fun and chill.

Nemo goes into his crate without a problem and is relatively quiet throughout the day.

Nemo is a strong boy but our volunteers who have walked him haven't had trouble. He might need some leash training with his new forever humans but considering how people-oriented he is, he will likely learn new things quickly in order to make you happy! So far, he knows how to sit, especially for treats.

A message from Nemo: I am a 5 year old, 52 lb male (my paperwork says I am 52 lb. but I am probably closer to 60 lb.)
My paperwork says I am a Mixed Breed
Dogs: Dogs are cool 😎
Cats: I haven't met those yet

We do not adopt on a first-come-first-serve basis, but rather by the best match between dog and family, although we will factor in the order of applications if there are equally good matches.

Please call all of your references (landlord if applicable, vet offices, and personal references) before filling out an application to let them know that we will be calling. We are an all-volunteer program and volunteers often make reference calls from their cell phone. It will be a number your personal reference does not recognize. We understand most people will screen their calls from unknown numbers so please tell them to keep an eye on their voicemail and give the volunteer a call back at their earliest convenience. We may end up playing phone tag with your personal references but will reach out to you if we need further assistance in reaching them.

Once we receive your application, we will check home ownership or landlord permission, personal references and vet references. We will reach out to you if we have questions during the process.

Our adoption fee for adult dogs is $450 which covers the costs of vetting (spay, vaccinations, heartworm testing, preventatives while in our care, deworming and microchip) and any boarding or transport fees incurred in each dog's rescue. Senior dogs are $250.
