My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Welcome Tootsie to rescue!

Tootsie is a 9 year old female Shih Tzu whose human passed away. The lady that took her in to help out the family was unable to provide the time and attention Tootsie needed. She came into the groomer in very bad shape due to circumstances beyond anyone's control. Her eyes were badly matted shut, her toenails were grown into her pads and she was unable to have full range of motion due to her heavily matted legs.

Thanks to Darlene at Horning's Pet Grooming & Boarding, Tootsie began her healing by being shaved to free her from her matts and pelted coat. Pelting is when a long or curly coated dog’s hair is matted so tightly to their skin, that it restricts air flow and cannot be brushed through (think: one large dreadlock).

Once shaved, we noticed her eyes were infected and she is overweight most likely from being immobile. She needed a complete work up at the Veterinarian so we could find out more about her. West Main Veterinary Clinic got her scheduled right away and she had a senior blood panel, X-Rays, HeartWorm testing done and teeth examined. Much to our pleasant surprise, she is in fairly good condition for her age. She will definitely get a full dental cleaning and she is on a healthy diet with exercise. We also got antibiotics for her conjunctivitis in both eyes. We appreciate Dr. Brenda & her staff at West Main Veterinary so much. They are so dedicated and compassionate to the many sick and neglected animals we bring to them and know exactly what to do to get them on the path to whole body health. Thank you!

Tootsie's foster mom says she has the sweetest personality! She is house trained and pee pad trained. This sweet girl was once very loved by a special someone who is no longer on this earth but somehow we think they are still looking out for Tootsie by helping her find her way to rescue. ?

Tootsie would love a quiet home where she can spend a lot of time with another special someone. She absolutely loves people and other pets but we would like to see her live out her days in the arms of a loving companion who needs a loving sweet girl to enjoy retirement life with. She can not see well and can not go up or down stairs. Also keep in mind, she will need grooming by a professional every 8 weeks.

Tootsie's adoption fee is $250.00 which includes her spay, vaccines including Rabies, dewormed, heartworm tested Negative and current on prevention also current on flea/tick prevention.
