Here's what the humans have to say about me:
LAIKA (25 kg/app 2 years old): This is a very special girl. Her will is strong. It had to be or she wouldn’t have survived her ordeal. She was kept tied to a chain with no water, no food and no shade in the sweltering Egyptian heat. She came to the boarding facility severely anemic and infested with ticks and parasites. She was extremely weak as she was very close to death. She needed a blood transfusion (thank you to the dog who gave her his blood). It was touch and go for a while. Just when we thought she was going to make it, she would take a turn for the worse and give us quite the scare before she would turn it back around.
Thankfully, she made it through and is now so full of life! Laika is an alpha girl. She is very loyal to the ones she loves. This is the German Shepherd in her. One of the staff at the shelter, his name is Yasser, slept with her in her kennel when she was fighting for her life. She is very protective of him. She is also highly intelligent. She knows she was rescued and she is super grateful. She takes pride in acting as protector.
She can be strong when she needs to but she can be equally gentle when she needs to as well. She is great with other dogs. The boarding facility in Egypt loves her as she keeps the other dogs in line in a firm but gentle way (as you can see in the video). She is a very happy girl. She, too, is super high energy – this is the Border Collie in her – and needs to run to expend her energy. She would be very well suited to a quiet place in the country or a city home with a fully fenced in backyard (minimum 6ft high).
Laika is like a human-dog. When you speak to her, it's like she understands what you are saying. You almost feel like you are speaking to a human, not a dog.
Now that Laika has discovered what love is, she has a ton of it to give. She is determined to make up for all the love she missed out on before she was rescued.
Laika would be best in a quiet, calm adult home (adult children are fine) where there is not a lot of excitement or activity. She also needs to be with a couple/family who has had dogs before. While she is fine with other dogs, she has never been around cats. It is our guess, however, that because of her playful and protective behaviour, while it is not aggressive, it could be seen as fearful to a cat. For this reason, we feel it is best there are no cats in the home.
Because she is so intelligent, this Lady is easy to train. She is sharp. She picks things up quickly and wants to please her human.
Laika is a clean girl and likes to keep her kennel clean. She is kennel-trained. Because she is at a boarding facility, she doesn't get out as much as a dog living in a home would. She goes outside when she is out of her kennel. However, she only gets about 4 hours a day to run and play outside. So, if she has to relieve herself and is not able to go outside, she will go in one corner and the staff will clean it up. She goes in the same corner all the time. This makes for an easy transition to being house-trained. To date, we have never experienced any issues in this regard.
As you can see in the video, Laika easily learned how to walk on a leash. She can learn anything.
This is one very special lady.
Adoption fee: $1400 (includes all flight and travel fees from Egypt to Canada)
PINK’s adoption fee is determined on a cost-recovery basis which includes the pet’s vetting (which varies for each animal depending on the situation and circumstance of their rescue), microchip, up to date shots, de-worming, de-fleaing, spay/neuter, all travel and flight costs, government mandated fees (in Egypt and Canada) and the international carriers they flew to Canada in.
Because the animals come from abroad, there are many more costs involved.
Our goal is to help as many homeless cats and dogs on the streets of Egypt as we can. The fee you pay helps the Egyptian rescues recover their costs. Not only are you saving this animal's life, you are helping to save another animal's life because the rescues can continue doing their work.
Please email us at thepinkvibe@hotmail.com to request an adoption application for Laika. Please also share a little bit about yourself and why you feel she is the perfect fit for your family. Thank you. :)
