Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET Maddie. She is a sweet tiny female Yorkie who is only 14 months old. Maddie weighs 6 lbs 11 oz. Maddie is being fostered in Miami, FL.
All dogs fostered in Florida must be adopted within the State of Florida.
UPDATED BIO 6/24/2021: Maddie arrived in United Yorkie Rescue just a few days ago and has already seen the vet for her well-doggie check. She has had an interesting life to be so very young; her previous owners who loved her very much found her on Craigslist when she was only 5 months old and brought her into their loving home. Maddie was the only little resident dog in the home for several months, and then two other dogs came along, and Maddie definitely decided that she liked being the only Princess in the home. Her surrendering parents worked very hard with Maddie to be a part of the doggie pack, but she continued to let them know she really wanted to be the only dog in her home.
Maddie has some mild separation anxiety which may resolve after she becomes accustomed to her foster home. For this reason, it is felt at this time that she needs a home with at least one stay-at-home or work-from home parent. Her foster mom also feels that apartment or condo living would not be the right home for her since she will bark at strange noises. If there are shared walls on any side, including someone living above or below Maddie, they would not be happy listening to her barking.
Maddie is full of herself, has a ton of energy as most puppies do and is very inquisitive. She is alert, very curious and intelligent. She has learned some basic commands like sit, stay, lay, wait and come, although her attention span is short due to her age. She is quite observant of everything around her including lizards, birds, and even trees swaying in the wind. She will sit for hours, just staring at these little creatures just taking it all in. Don't let this tiny little biscuit fool you - this gal can bark, run and jump very high!! She does not appear to be afraid of thunder or loud noises, but is a light sleeper. She naps a lot in the day but rests well at night.
Maddie loves to play with toys, especially squeakies, and can play with them for hours on end. She also likes to play ball. If you throw a small ball, she will fetch and bring it back to you. She enjoys walking several times a day on a leash. She walks very well alongside her person like a good little girl. Maddie currently appears to have a strong dominant personality with other dogs, but doesn't typically bark at other dogs as she passes them on her walks. She still needs some reinforcement in the house-training department, but she is smart and with continued repetition and frequent walks, she will eventually get it. She is getting accustomed to using the potty pad in her foster home.
PLEASE NOTE the following before applying to adopt Maddie:
- Maddie needs to be the only dog in the home, this means no cats, no birds, no hamsters and definitely no other dogs.
- Due to her small size, Maddie can only go into a home with children 12 years old and older. No exceptions.
- Maddie needs an adoptive home with at least one stay-at-home or work-from-home parent
