My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Heartworm Prevention is given on the 1st of each month

Let's give a big CTDR welcome to sweet Reecie.  Reecie was surrendered to CTDR after her owner could no longer care for her.  Reecie's human dad passed away very suddenly and her human mom went back to work and could not care for her.  CTDR was honored to be asked to help find Reecie her forever home.  Reecie had a back injury a couple of years ago and while on crate rest, she decided to gnaw off her back legs.  Reecie is an active little girl as she has a set of wheels and also a Scooter that she gets around in.  Reecie is cautious when she meets new people and will slowly warm up to you on her time.  She is not fond of children so it would be best if she did not go to a home with kids.  If you are interested in giving this sweet girl her forever home, please complete an application at ctdr.org.

Adoption Fee:

On average, we spend $296 in vet expenses on each dog that we take in. To help us cover those expenses, on November 1, 2004 our adoption fee will increase to $250, and puppies under 1 year of age will be $300.

1.) Complete our online ADOPTION APPLICATION at (www.ctdr.org/phpform/forms/application.html) and list the names of all the dogs you're interested in. If you don't currently see a dog that matches your family, please tell us more about what you're looking for. We have new dogs weekly and will contact you if a dog comes in that meets your requirements. Don't forget to list the name and number of your current veterinarian and landlord, if applicable! We will contact your current vet, landlord and personal references, if needed.

2.) After we receive your application, we'll contact you to discuss the specifics of what you're looking for. We will try to contact you within 3-7 days, but we are all volunteers and have full time jobs, so be patient with us!

3.) Once we have completed all reference checks, we will schedule a home visit where someone from our organization will come to your home and meet you and your family and any pets you currently have.

4.) Finally, we will schedule a time when your family and pet(s) can meet your desired rescue dachshund. If a long transport is involved, we ask the potential adopter to arrange the transportation of the dog.

Go meet their pets

Unlike a shelter or humane society, our dogs are not in one central location, but spread throughout many foster homes across the state. We realize that this makes it difficult to 'come meet our dogs,' but we believe the one-on-one care our dachshunds receive is well worth the inconvenience.

We will work with you to schedule a meet and greet with one or more of our dogs that are determined to be a good match for you and your family.

More about this rescue

Central Texas Dachshund Rescue is a volunteer organization whose main purpose is to rescue homeless Dachshunds and find them permanent, loving homes. We began rescuing Dachshunds in September of 2000 and our membership has grown yearly. In September of 2001 we incorporated and we received 501(c)3 status in February 2003. And, despite our name, we are no longer only in Central Texas, but have members and volunteers throughout the state of Texas and beyond.

All dogs that come through Central Texas Dachshund Rescue have been fully vetted before adoption. This includes a health exam by a veterinarian, the vaccinations appropriate for its age, and a heartworm test and preventative. All dogs are spayed or neutered before being adopted. Dogs too young to be spay or neutered are adopted under the agreement that they will be spayed or neutered at the appropriate time. We also provide dental treatment or other surgical treatments as necessary. The average cost of vetting our dogs is in the hundreds of dollars.

Our network of foster families provide safe and secure temporary homes, good nutrition, medical care, and socialization skills for our fosters. We always welcome new volunteers so if you would like to find out more about how you can help CTDR, please visit our website at: www.ctdr.org
