My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Moose's rescue story begins two months ago, out of Northern California, where he was going to be euthanized. After bringing Moose to Utah, he went to stay with a young couple and their two dogs. A nine-year-old pit-bull and a five-month-old Airedale. The first couple weeks of transition for Moose were not without their trials, but once he found comfort in the routine and care provided, he warmed up and he's become a beloved part of the pack. In order for you to get a better understanding of Moose and his journey to us you should understand his past.
Prior to his rescue, Moose spent the first five years of his life being neglected, chained to a tree 24/7, without socialization or exercise. His bottom teeth were filed down, as a result of constant gnawing on the chain. Before coming to Utah, he was given to a family with children and several other dogs, where he may have finally been shown love, only to be failed again.
Sadly, this home lasted a short eight months, ending in an unfortunate incident where a young woman in the family was bit near her mouth, requiring stitches. Prior to this incident he showed no signs of aggression and the circumstances around the bite aren’t certain. The family had animal control remove Moose from their property immediately, he spent a week in the shelter and was due to be euthanized the following week. So here we are.
Moose has had a life full of trauma and inconsistency, he is so much more than this one misunderstanding.
He is sweet, and good. He continues to show discipline and progress, love and an eagerness to fit in. He goes to daycare twice a week where he socializes with dogs of many breeds and sizes, he visits the dog park and goes on walks with others without incident. He absolutely loves playing fetch, chasing his puppy-foster brother and swimming after a ball. More recently he has discovered a love for the water...his foster family took him out to the lake and before they could even park Moose jumped out of the window, ran past the people coming and going, and jumped straight into the water!
While it’s only been a few months he has shown so much progress, he is e-collar trained, trained off leash and crate trained. All things he wasn't comfortable with prior!
He would do well with a experienced dog owner, one who is happy to respect boundaries and have patience as Moose transitions into a new home. Not knowing the full extent of the abuse Moose endured, we’ve recognized it takes him time to be affectionate and that trust needs to be established beforehand. He loves to jump up in the bed whenever he gets the chance and is the King of assurances. Moose will rest his head in your lap, kiss your face during a car ride, and follow you around the house. He knows how to chill and loves to nap next to you while you work.
Overall Moose is a big boy, with a big heart who hasn’t been given the chance to really open and share it!
