Here's what the humans have to say about me:
COURTESY POST -Located in Santa Cruz, CA
This is Pickles, a 1 year old Cattle Dog Bull Terrier mix. Pickles is mostly sweet and rarely dill. She has been an inside/outside dog and is very loyal to usually one person. She loves to be petted and snuggled. I’m afraid she thinks she’s human, except when she gets to play with other dogs.
Initially, she was shy with her tail almost always between her legs. She has come out of that with lots of socialization at the dog parks and beach. She likes children and is partial to my grandson and the girls down the street. I noticed that she approaches strangers and dogs with a little caution and then is fine. She will also run to me for protection when a large male wants to mount her or will voice her disapproval! I refrain from having her around small puppies because she is over exuberant but not dangerous.
In her safe environment, she allows me to wash and brush her, check her teeth, and remove anything from toes and ears. She responds to sit (especially with treats) and usually comes when called. She also responds to my hand signals to stay and heel. She has had access to the yard and if enclosed in the house for long has not learned to wait until outside, so needs a little potty training if access will not be available (doggie door or partially opened door). She will need more training.
Some of her “dill” qualities are that she likes to bury her bones or chewies, so I don’t give her them unless she’s in a secure area. She will be protective of strangers coming to the house and growl or bark, so needs to be reassured that person is OK.
She can be a bit ADHD and if cooped up too long will bark wanting to play (tail wagging and jumping up and down), which can be annoying. I also noticed that she seems to be anxious around tall men with something in their hand (stick or long object), so she must have had a negative past experience. Not being a dog psychologist, can’t say!
We really like her, but because we travel a lot can only foster her. We are also willing to dog sit or take her to the beach or park when her new owner needs a break. Pickles is spayed, chipped and up to date on vaccines
