Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This is Bando! He's a Terrier Pit mix who just turned 1 in May of 2021. He was turned over to the shelter because his family is having a baby and they no longer wanted his companionship. This betrayal caused depression in dear Bando and he stopped eating altogether, requiring IV fluids...he had all but given up. Enter Ninja Paws and a foster mom extraordinaire, and Bando is bouncing back!
After just a few hours at his new foster mom's, he was a totally different pup. He plays with the foster's other dogs, enjoys a good chew on a Nylabone, will chase a ball like no other, actually likes a good bath, savors his snacks and food, and really appreciates a soft, safe place to lay his head.
Bando is working on conquering his nervousness but everything new right now makes him nervous. He just likes his own time to sniff things out but he generally is accepting once he realizes it's safe. He does not like to be handled around his neck/collar area so we suspect he was (wrongly) disciplined around that area and still harbors reservations. However, his foster mom is introducing nice, slow touching, and petting around the head and he is responding favorably. It will take a little time to undo whatever has been done, but he seems willing to move on and so are we!
Bando is building his confidence one day at a time and the foster reports huge improvements. He is learning that his crate is a safe place where he can relax, have a meal, and drift off to sleep. It's not a place for punishment and he's coming around to the idea. He needs to be reminded to be nice at treat time, but his enthusiasm is nice to see. Bando knows the "sit" command and is working on "stay". He will follow you everywhere you let him so he is best suited for a person wanting to guide him towards excellence by exhibiting patience and love.
Bando would like nothing more than someone to cuddle up to. His perfect human companion would have NO CATS and no small, loud children. In all honesty and transparency, Bando would be best with a single female, especially one who worked from home, and who did not have male acquaintances coming and going. We do think it's possible that Bando bonds with a male eventually, but it will have to be a very special male and it will take a long time. His BEST environment will be more on the quiet side, much less chaos and noise. He's a perfect homebody! But he does enjoy his dog friends so he need not be the only dog.
Bando will likely never be that dog you walk around the neighborhood. However, if you spend a fair amount of time outside, working on a garden or other hobbies, he will gladly join you. He might try to talk you into a game of ball toss or frisbee while you're out there soaking up the sun's rays. He also seems fond of water so if you have a pool, you may find him taking a dip.
For these reasons, Bando needs an experienced handler who does not rely on strong discipline...that won't work for him. Bando needs strong guidance, a good routine, time, and patience. Because of his tendency to overreact at initial meetings and new sounds/sights, he is not good for an apartment.
Bando is a very handsome boy, a good boy in his own right. He is totally up to date on vetting, microchipped, and ready for his true, forever person. His adoption fee is $200 so please visit our website to submit an application for consideration.
