My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello. My name is Salami (HWTH#21133A). I am a Doxie mix, born 6/19/19 and I weigh 13 lbs. I was a stray in Palmdale and a good Samaritan took me in and cared for me while he looked for my owners. Well, they never came so here I am at Halfway to Home and I look forward to finding a forever home. I got my name from the man who found me because he gave me salami as a little snack. I'm not sure how I feel about other lunch meats but salami sure is yummy (in very small amounts of course because it is fatty). I was very shy at first and I exhibited some signs of neglect so the man spent a lot of time with me so I would get used to being around people and now I am more willing to engage with humans, but I am not a good fit for young children because I may nip if I get nervous. I like being around other dogs, and will tolerate cats. Doxie mixes like me have short legs, which means even though we like going for walks, we tire easily, so one or two short walks a day should be sufficient to meet my needs. It also means that if you will let me snuggle on the couch or in bed with you (I hope you do) that I will need some pet stairs to get up and down or you will have to pick me up. I would probably be fine in an apartment or condo but I would appreciate a secure patio or small yard where I can get some outdoor "me" time and have a place to go potty. I appear to be house-trained but please be patient with me while I get used to my new surroundings and learn the routine. I have a longer coat so regular brushing will be important to keep my coat looking healthy. With some time and patience I think I will make a wonderful family member. If you would like more information or an appointment to meet me, please call 661-824-4495. Thank you.
