My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

💥COURTESY POST - Please continue to share! Please contact Denise@Patteddi@yahoo.com.

Hello, my name is Rocco. I am looking for my forever family. My foster parents are great though, they play catch with me. I love my Frisbee and my ball.
I was lost and scared because I didn’t know the neighborhood that I was left in. I was scared of people, at first, but then I found out there are nice people. I now know what it means to love my humans and know what playtime is and I can’t get enough of either.
I’ll let my fosters take it from here:
Rocco was seen in our neighborhood for about 2 weeks on and off. He was scared and would run every time we tried approaching. One day while out working in the yard he approached us. Over the course of about 15 minutes he moved in closer and closer until he let us pet him. We offered him a bowl of food and it was over…he was hungry and he knew at that moment he could trust us. He willingly followed to the garage.
Over the course of the next several days he learned what a safe sleeping spot was. I don’t think he had one for a very long time. It was obvious, very quickly, that he was a gentle spirit. He didn’t gulp his food down, he respected boundaries and by that I mean he did not mess with anything in the garage. He ONLY took what bones and toys he was GIVEN and not once chewed on anything. Speaking of boundaries, he also has one weird thing about him – He won’t poop anywhere close or while we were walking on a leash, he MUST go off by himself and it has to be a long way off from where he lives and plays. He is very adamant about that.
Rocco quickly began trusting us and while we learned each other over the next couple of weeks and we can tell you that he is a GREAT family dog. He does need some training but he is absolutely willing to learn and a very quick study. Just the basics like sit, stay and fetch were taught in a matters of hours. Teaching him what he can have and not have has been very easy. He craves attention from his people and will love you unconditionally.
While some dogs have anxiety issues when it comes to Thunderstorms, we can tell you Rocco is not phased in the least. I think he slept better during some crazy storms we had. He also stays in the garage and has no problem with hammering and the loud noises of saws. He sleeps perfectly sound while all the working is accomplished in the garage.
Rocco regularly visits the neighbor dogs and always wants to meet new friends. His tail is always wagging the friendly banner.
He is a curious fellow. He loves to be doing what we are doing. Working in the garage- there’s Rocco laying nearby. Cleaning up the yard – there’s Rocco helping to pick up the tree branches. Driving the ATV – there’s Rocco running right along side. He is a very loyal pup.
This boy has an amazing personality and talks to you about everything.
He is a wonderful car riding buddy as well. He will jump right up into your car with you. We gave him his own blanket on the first night and he knew it was HIS bed. After a week we put his blanket in a cage and he took right to sleeping in a cage. We did that to see if we could cage train him and he is perfectly happy sleeping on the garage floor, on a bed of blankets or in a cage. He is just so easy to please.
All vetting has been accomplished. He is up-to-date on all shots and tick treatment. He was heartworm negative. We got him chipped as well. He has also been neutered. He is in awesome health and shape, aside from a lot of scars from what we can only assume is scuffles while he was on his own. The vet placed him at about 2 years old. He has a lot of play in him and as he bonds with his forever family he will be able to grow comfortable and old with them.
Rocco [and the right family] will bond not unlike a “Red fern” tale. Crazy reference for some I know, but if you have read that book you will understand what I am trying say about Rocco.
He is a gentle soul in so many ways but when it comes to standing the line, I believe Rocco will be one to put his life first to do what dogs do best….be humans best friend.
With all this being said – Rocco’s new family will be vetted fully to make sure he will be going to the right peoples. When he found us, he found out what getting spoiled means. We want to find a family that will do the same for him.. as we are. He enjoys it and he shows his appreciation every single day.
