My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you're searching for the most devoted and loving best friend ever....Sprout is the pup you want to have around! Sprout, at just about 5.5 years old and 21 lbs, is just naturally a lover....when he looks at you with those dark, expressive eyes and sweet smile, your heart just can't help but melt. Sprout is a truly beautiful Miniature Schnauzer with all the traits that make these very smart and personality-plus dogs very popular as best friends for families and individuals.

Sprout is currently in a foster home in the Denver area. We have learned valuable information about Sprout through the experience of this foster and the information that we've received from Sprout's Texas rescue group.

Sprout's general day to day behavior:

- cuddly, playful, enjoys his walks
- loves to be around his people
- friendly towards visitors
- house trained
- knows the command ‘sit’
- loves to be patted, loves his belly rubs
- gets along very well with other dogs

Sprout's challenges:

-We believe Sprout would do better in a home with no children. He seems to feel safer when the energy
is a bit lower and voices are softer

-We have found that Sprout appears to feel safer in a female household. We wonder if at some point in
his life he had a scary experience with a male

-Since Sprout was on the streets, he most likely had to fight for his meals. He can be possessive with his
food..this can effectively be dealt with by feeding him separately if he's in a multi-dog household

-There has been a case where he responded aggressively when he was ordered off the bed by a male.
An effective way to work with this is to make the bed a no-go zone in a female household and additional training if necessary. A savvy guardian who behaves as a leader would be perfect for Sprout

-Sprout has always communicated with a low rumbling growl. This doesn't mean that he's happy or
angry...it's just his form of communication

Sprout is a young, healthy dog who will love his family with all his heart. He would enjoy another kind and gentle dog to play with and then to lie in the sunshine together enjoying a beautiful day. Sprout will have so much fun exploring and taking long hikes along the Colorado trails. He's always open to new activities with a never-ending positive attitude...just say the word and up Sprout jumps for a car ride, a fun hike or just a sociable stroll around the neighborhood.

Farfel's feels that a childless home is the right spot for Sprout. An active retiree (female please) or a younger female home who has the time and love for a very sweet and loyal dog. We'd hate to see Sprout left alone all day while his family works full-time outside of the home. We feel he's too sensitive for that arrangement. Those that work from a home-based office would also be a great option for our sweet Sprout.

Farfel's Rescue would like to see Sprout with a family where he'll get consistent mental and physical stimulation and tons of loving hugs. A positive reinforcement/force free group or virtual training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. These training classes make such a difference in a dog's behavior and bonding with their people that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't choose this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person positive reinforcement trainers in your area.

Sprout has the Schnauzer-scruffy, non-shedding coat that speaks of a healthy Schnauzer (excellent for those with allergy concerns.... but his hair is currently looking a bit shelter-sad. This beautiful guy will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and excellent nutrition...five star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are strongly recommended for general longevity (great eye, heart and coat care) to keep Sprout's coat cottony-soft, matt-free and shining with excellent health.

Sprout has been fully vetted, vaccinated and neutered in order to earn his interstate health certificate for travel from Texas to Colorado. This is in line with Farfel's commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs that won't contribute to the canine over-population challenge.

We're currently searching for a very loving, nurturing and committed family for our wonderful Sprout. Applications are being accepted for this loyal best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting our sweet as can be Sprout, please be sure to submit the Farfel's Rescue adoption application that can be found at the link above or at farfels.com. Rescue site applications such as Petfinder, Rescueme or Adoptapet don't provide enough information for us to determine a great match for this very deserving dog.. and therefore aren't useful. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
