My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ben could be that dream come true pup for very active retirees who love spending their time with a cottony-soft, super-loving and very sweet companion. There's no question that Ben would also do well with a younger family with gentle older kids who enjoy the fun and positive energy that a sweet and very loving smaller dog brings to a family. We'd prefer older children for Ben as tail-pulling or awkward handling by young children often results in dogs that are frightened of young children.

Ben has had a hard life without lots of love and nurturing...but not for him to be negative or sad. Farfel's is very committed to placing Ben with a family that derives great joy from showering a beautiful and sweet dog with nothing but excellent care, love and kindness. Once comfortable in his environment, Ben really enjoys playing and is so entertaining in his antics, positive energy and the pure love that lives inside the heart of this wonderful pup.

Ben's story is all too common in his extremely close call to being euthanized for space in a scary Texas shelter....but who could ignore his adorable manner, gorgeous looks and the huge potential that he has to be a successful and loving family companion. Our compassionate Texas rescuer recognized all these wonderful qualities in Ben and brought him to safety. Farfel's was contacted by Ben's foster mom (she loves him to death!) and we were thrilled to accept the sweet and very loving Ben into our rescue.

Ben can be initially unsure due to lots of changes in his life ..but give him just a short time (a soft belly rub and yummy treats are helpful) and he inches just a bit closer to a welcoming lap. Before you know it he's gently loving you with a soft kiss and a happily wagging tail. Ben's awesome rescuer is certain that there is a home out there that will love, respect and make this little guy a permanent (and beloved) member of their family.

Ben will do well with a family who's invested in spending time with their pup. He's so pleasant and portable that he can be a part of any adventure....it can be a neighborhood walk (he's a social guy who enjoys meeting his neighbors), long hikes through the Colorado mountains, a round of frisbee or agility training in the park, a car ride to a dog-friendly spot or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch - all of this would speak to Ben's excellent temperament. We aren't open to a home where everyone spends their days working full-time outside of the home....we'd like Ben to get more time and attention than is possible with that lifestyle. Retirees or a family that works from a home-based office are excellent choices for our family-loving guy.

Ben has a gorgeous pure-white coat with the prettiest markings ever! Right now, his coat is shelter-sad and will require a lifelong commitment to excellent care. Ben will thrive on 5 star food, a daily salmon oil supplement and periodic sudsy baths and brushing. This protocol will bring the cottony-softness and shine back to Ben's stunning coat.

Training classes (virtual or in-person) with a positive reinforcement trainer will truly serve both Ben and his family (as it does every dog and their people). Together they will learn the skills to have Ben be a well-adjusted companion that is well-behaved when out in the world with his people. It also creates strong bonds of respect between pup and family. It is for these reasons that Farfel's is unwilling to adopt Ben to a family that doesn't choose to give him this training opportunity with one of our approved virtual or in-person trainers. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force-free trainers in your area.

Farfel's has requested that Ben be neutered prior to his transport to Colorado. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to too many rescue dogs in this area of Texas and not enough veterinarians to fix them. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Ben's neuter and microchip following his arrival on transport in Colorado if one of our rescue vets is used.

Ben is arriving on transport in Boulder on Wednesday 6/23/2021. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet guy. If interested in this gorgeous ...and very cuddly and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Ben please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder, Rescueme and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
