My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Colt is a handsome 4-1/2 year old male Black and Tan Coonhound/Australian Shepherd mix who was surrendered by his owner on June 15, 2021.

This good-looking boy has a black short smooth coat with tan markings, a smidgeon of white on his chest, a long tail, and an adorable face with a tan muzzle, tiny tan eyebrows, and large floppy ears.

Colt has the cutest smile on his beautiful face. We guarantee that you will soon be smiling yourself when you see his happy, mischievous-looking grin.

His previous owner told us that Colt had shared his home with children less than a year old and also with dogs and cats. Colt does well with older children but may be a little too active with smaller/younger ones and unintentionally knock them down. He was ok with cats who shared his home. We always suggest a meet-and-greet with other dogs to assure that they are compatible.

Colt knows the 'sit' and 'shake' commands and was quite willing to obey those commands when HSOV kennel tech Tess Grogg accompanied him for his outdoor photo session. Colt loved snuggling up to Tess and gave her some great puppy kisses.

Colt has spent his days outdoors and has been kept indoors at night confined to a crate. His exercise routine was that he spent time in his yard, so he was not accustomed to taking walks .. But he LOVES walking these days with shelter staff and volunteers. Colt is housebroken with occasional accidents if left inside too long.

Colt is frightened of loud noises (such as loud engines, vacuum cleaners, and thunderstorms/lightning). He shows his fear by barking and trembling. Colt tended to be protective of his food/toys in his home (a behavior that is fairly common with many dogs).

Colt's favorite toy/activity is chewing on nylabones.

Colt weighs 55.8 lbs. He was tested for heartworm (negative) at his previous owner's veterinarian. Colt was given vaccines, wormer, and flea treatment at HSOV on June 15, 2021.

Colt was neutered on August 16, 2021 and was also given rabies vaccine, so he is ready to find a home with a new family where he will be loved and spoiled to his heart's content.

Colt has attended off-site events with volunteers (including First Fridays in downtown Marietta Ohio) and has been a social butterfly who is eager for attention from new adoring fans.
