My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Microchipped/ DOB: November 26, 2019 (1.5 years old)

Lu has lots of love to give! When he first met his foster mom, he became an immediate lap cat. Although he’s most comfortable being social and affectionate when he feels happy and safe, he can be a bit timid around new people and situations. When Lu is nervous, he will hang out under the couch until someone gets on the floor to ask him nicely to come out. Once he knows who’s in the room, he will happily sit next to them on the couch and sometimes even on their lap.

Lu thoroughly enjoys head pats, full body pets, and scratches under the chin. But he will let you know when he’s had enough. Lu is not aggressive, his paw swats and open-mouth taunts are cues that he’s had enough affection. Lu will need a little patience as you get to know him so he might not be a great fit for young children.

Lu is a very good boy and doesn’t create a ruckus at home or chew computer cords, but he is very playful when his toys are out. He loves to use his teeth to chew through the string on wand toys! Nice thick ropes and kicker toys are probably the right choice for him. Lu also likes to chomp plants so it would be best for him and the plants if they were kept out of his reach.

Because his coat is so long, he gets hot quickly when playing and will pant. His foster mom helps cool down by putting ice cubes in his water dish - he finds them fascinating! Lu will need daily grooming to keep his coat healthy and free of painful mats.

Lu was brought under the care of Toronto Cat Rescue after he was surrendered to a shelter in Quebec. He was described by shelter staff as a “tiny ball of energy.” Despite this description, his fosters find him pretty easy-going.

Lu came into foster care with a urinary tract issue. Although it has cleared up, he is still on a special diet as a precaution and his new family should closely monitor his litter box habits for signs of a recurrence. Lu would like to remain on a diet of wet food to ensure a healthy urinary tract.

Lu has been living with a sassy resident cat who hasn't been a very welcoming hostess. He is curious and friendly around her but hasn’t had the opportunity to spend much time together. With proper introductions, Lu’s foster family believes he would be happy with another easy-going, mild-tempered cat.
