My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Juniper is 5 years old and sh e is looking for her next forever home because she is no longer compatible with her female canine housemate. There have been 4 incidents between January 10 and May 5, 2021.

This is a terribly difficult decision for her family, as she has been with them since she was adopted as a puppy. Her family has consulted specialists (including a Veterinary Behaviorist) in an effort to improve the interaction between both dogs, but those efforts have been unsuccessful. They are hoping to find her the perfect forever home where she can live the carefree life she deserves.

Outside of her incidents with her housemate, she is described as a wonderful companion and her family will happily provide her full medical and behavioral records prior to adoption.

Juniper weighs 57 pounds and is vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped, and has no known health issues.

She is further described by her current family as:

Playful
Friendly
Likes to be touched
Affectionate
House-Trained
Crate-Trained
Likes men
Likes women

Also:

Juniper knows sit, stay, come, speak, touch, give and off commands.

She either sleeps in bed with us or on a dog bed nearby
Until recently, she is accustomed to having free access to the entire house, and frequent access to a large fenced back yard.

She travels well in the car, but has never been on a long trip.

Dislikes:
thunderstorms, other dogs, fireworks

Surrender Information/details:

Starting in January of this year, serious fights began breaking out between Juniper and our other dog,Tikka, who both lived and played together happily with us for 5 years. We believe Juniper to be the primary instigator of the fights. We have consulted with trainers and the behavioral vet, Dr. Amy Pike. Dr. Pike believes Juniper has built up high levels of stress hormone that can spike in the presence of a trigger such as high-value food when Tikka (or possibly any other dog) is around, causing her to lose control. The two dogs are now living separately in our home.

Juniper is doing very well on the canine version of Prozac. She is more calm and remains affectionate and lovable, but the vet says that the potential for aggression between our two dogs will continue to be a serious concern. As the only animal in a loving, attentive  home, Juniper should be able to live out a safe, happy, and full life.

She eats:

Canidae brand dry food

With children:

Juniper has very little experience with children. In general, she becomes very excited at first when people come into our house and is eager to engage with them, always affectionately, but always excitedly and energetically. Given her recent history with Tikka, we think she should be closely supervised around small children.

With other dogs:

Juniper does not have a lot of experience with other dogs. Recently, she becomes agitated. We believe she should be kept apart from other dogs.

With cats:

Juniper has no experience with cats. Caution is advised.

Her ideal home:

Juniper's ideal future  home  would have adults who are around a lot and are eager to give and receive affection (Juniper loves hugs). Her people would understand her potential for aggression with other dogs and be prepared to manage it. A fenced yard for exercise and exploring would be great.
