My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chocolate Chip arrived at Homes Fur Hounds with 5 other little beagles after 100 dogs were taken in by Animal Control. Of the beagles we took in Chocolate Chip is the most timid and cautious around people.

He is very cute, 25 pounds and 1 year old. Just to look at him he would seem to be just a happy little beagle. But it does take him some time to warm up to you when he first meets you. He does prefer women. I think the sound of a man's voice and their size is a little intimidating for him, but he will warm up eventually. He bonded pretty quickly with his foster mom and now follows her everywhere. He hangs out in her office when she works. He does like to get in her lap.

He does try to bolt out the door when he gets a chance and will try to run when he gets spooked when walking on a leash. So he wouldn't be good with small children in the home who probably would scare him and potentially let him out the door.

He is still really like a puppy at 1 year old and does like to chew. You can re-direct him to Kong toys but you do need to keep an eye on him. He really would benefit from a training class. He does like short car rides and enjoys sniffing out the window. He hasn't been on any long trips yet.

He gets along with the other dogs in the home and he has started puppy daycare. We have noticed if he gets to run and play all day with another dog it does really help poop him out and he is much better at home. So we do want him to go to a home with another dog not only for a playmate, but to observe another dog trust people so he will learn. He will also need a fenced yard.

Chocolate Chip will need someone with some patience and understanding and preferably someone who has worked with timid dogs previously. For an application go to www.homesfurhounds.com. He is located in Newport News, Va.
