Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at www.seniordoghaven.org under the Adoption Process tab.
Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.
Isabella is looking for her final forever home!
This 15-year-old little shih tzu mix was surrendered when her owner passed away. When she came to us she was badly in need of a dental and had itchy skin and a mass that needed to be removed, but a little TLC and she's as good as new! The mass was a sweat gland tumor (adenocarcinoma). There is a slight chance it could spread to lymph nodes near the sweat glands, but currently she is cancer free!
Isabella is a quiet, calm little lady. She is blind and partially deaf, but that doesn't stop her from actively exploring the house and yard. She never barks except to remind you that it's dinner time! Because she had many teeth removed, she is on a limited ingredient soft-food diet. She is crate-trained but will also go outside if you take her out regularly. Because her former owner couldn't get around very well, Isabella is not fully house-trained, so her foster mom puts a diaper on her when she goes exploring indoors.
Isabella doesn't like to be restrained in any way and turns into a little wiggle worm if you try, so she gets a dose of Gabapentin before vet visits to make it easier for them to examine her. Despite this, she has never shown any signs of aggression at all - no snarling, snapping, or growling. Other than that, she is in good health for a gal her age and isn't on any prescription medications, but does get over-the-counter eye drops daily for her dry eyes (about $5 - $7/month).
Isabella gets along great with other dogs and her foster mom's bunnies. She does take a little while to warm up to new people and will need a family that is willing to be patient with her and gain her trust before she'll snuggle with you. If you're looking for a calm, quiet, easy-going little lady to keep you company, Isabella might be the perfect companion!
