My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Mika – a 2-year-old female Heeler mix who came to us from the Oglala Pet Project in Pine Ridge. She is spayed, current on vaccinations, and weighs 33 lbs. She’s also potty trained and keeps her kennel clean! Mika gets along with both large and small dogs, but we’re not sure how she is with cats. Mika would do best in a home with older children (8+) and can be wary of new people so we recommend slow introductions and some confidence building. Mika is a wonderful girl who would make a great friend! If you think Mika would be a good fit for you home give us a call at (605) 697-7387 or email us at BrookingsRegionalHumaneSociety@hotmail.com to set up your appointment! We are located in Brookings, SD.

Most of our dogs are currently in shelter - but some are in foster homes. If you would like to see a specific dog, feel free to contact us to see if they are in shelter or in foster care! Dogs in shelter are available to visit or adopt daily. IF a dog is in a foster home, they come in on Saturdays from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Arrangements can be made to have specific dogs brought in during the week- just give us a call or email to see if the dog you are interested in is in a foster home and set up a meeting time if necessary.

Our adoption fees include the following: all of our dogs/puppies are current on vaccinations (DHPP and Rabies if over 3 months of age) at the point of adoption, dewormed, heartworm tested and current on preventative, microchipped, treated for fleas/ticks and are spayed or neutered. Our large dog adoption fee is generally $150 + tax. Our small dog and puppy adoption fee is generally $250+ tax. Adoption fees may vary in special circumstances. Due to space limitations, we do not hold dogs.

Because we are on a busy street, we require that all dogs leaving the shelter be in a carrier or on leash. All pets remain up for adoption until an approved application is processed and their adoption fee paid.
