Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.
Meet Filipe! This distinguished gentleman is very mild mannered and full of playful energy. He loves the squeaky toys; you will find him playing with them throughout the day consistently. He will throw them around and fetch them all by himself. He does prefer brighter colors. We don’t believe he is a flight risk but you should be mindful at the front door. When leaving, he will try to leave with you.
He loves to be petted. You just have to approach him slowly, so you don’t startle him. When you go to pet him and he sees that you’re coming in to pet him don’t be surprised if he flops over for full on belly rubs.
We believe he might be going blind. However, he can see well enough to get around the house with him no issues and in and out of the house. If you have a doggie door and a fenced in yard, that will be an added bonus. Filipe loves to spend time in the yard. He likes to sunbathe, and he also likes to just walk around and explore and just overall be outside.
He does have a 4/6 heart murmur and cherry eye. However the vet has indicated both were mild and not something that needed to be treated at this time. He also has had some dental work done so he is in his little best health at this time. He has showed some signs of hind end weakness. He’s not doing bad for a 15 year old, though!
We have not had any incidents with Filipe going potty in our house. As stated, he uses the doggie door frequently to go in and outside as a result, we believe he is potty trained as long as he has access to the outside. We have several other male dogs in the house so he does do the “Guy Thing” and find their markings and leave his own.
He has been great with other dogs. His current foster home has several other dogs that he likes to spend time with. He did really seem to enjoy having other little furry friends around, though he enjoys his alone time as well.
We did have him groomed while he was here. Our groomer did tell us he does not like to have his paws trimmed or his nails trimmed but did well otherwise.
We believe he will be a great addition to any household. He’s just an overall loving little guy and a great little companion.
